In 1799, he received an appointment as a Major and a government Counselor on
St. Croix. 4
He was married on 14 September 1807 to Magdalen Astor (1788-1832), the
daughter of John Jacob Astor, of the United States. 5

In 1816, he was appointed Governor General of the Danish West Indies. 6
He had a relationship with a Miss Coppy. 7
He died on 15 January 1827 and was buried the same day in Christiansted. 8
------------------------Peter Bentzon was born on St. Thomas in about 1781 and was baptized in the
Lutheran Church.9 [Silversmith]
Peter Benzon arrived on 13 July 1824, in Christiansted, St. Croix from
Philadelphia.10
By October 1841, he was married to Rachel, who was born on St. Croix in about
1799 and was baptized in the Roman Catholic Church. 11
They were living at that time at 52a Company Street, Christiansted, which he
owned, and where he was a Jeweler. 12 He had received a Burgher Certificate, but it was
lost in a fire in America. 13

who died in 1882.
She died in 1937 in Frederiksberg, Denmark.
