---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------John Lillie, senior, and his wife, Mary, who was born in about 1703, were from
Antigua.1
He was dead by July 1765. 2
As of 18 July 1765, she owned a black woman, Joan, and her daughter, Sophy,
along with a house in New Gate Street, St. John, Antigua.
She was buried by the Anglican Priest in the Christiansted Churchyard on 8
October 1767, and she was 64 years old (b. c1703).3

1. Thomas Lillie was born in about 1731.4
He was a merchant and a planter.5 He owned estates Herman Hill and Lillieshaab
in Company Quarter, St. Croix.6
He owned property by at least 1754, but maybe in 1753, at no 1 Company
Quarter, where he was living alone in 1754 and 1755.7

In 1756, he owned both no. 1 & 33 Company Quarter, and he was living with at
least a wife in number 1 Company Quarter.8 [He may have come to St. Croix with
Nicolas Tuite, from Montserrat, since Tuite owned much of the initial land. –SEH]
He married Dorcas,9 who was born in about 1720.10 She was the widow of a man
named Latham, 11 probably James Latham,12 with whom she had a son.13
In 1759, he owned only number 33 Company Quarter, where he was living with
two white women and 1 white child, 2 white servants and enslaved people.14
By 1762, he owned numbers 12, 14, 32 & 33 Company Quarter, and he was living
at 32-33 Company Quarter, with two women and 1 child.15
In the years 1765 to 1770, he owned a house in King’s Street, Christiansted.16
He was known as Captain Lillie.17
He was named as an executor of James Lytton's estate, when Lytton died on 12
August 1767.18
Among his godchildren were: Edward Rogers, Russell Lillie Osborn (a girl) and
Dorcas Lillie Hackett.19
He died on 23 January 1776, and his probate began shortly after.20 He was buried
by the Anglican priest at Thomas's estate on 25 January 1776, aged 45.21
On 24, February 1786, she was received into the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting of
Quakers, and on 26 October 1787, she was granted a certificate to Quakers on Tortola
and St. Croix.22 [See her will for further family details – Danish Chancery, F 26,

She was buried on 13 January 1798 by the Anglican Minister on St. Croix on the
estate of John Ringer, aged 78 years old.23
2. Daniel Lillie was born about 1733. 24
In February 1758, he was listed for the first time as living in Christiansted, alone
with one white servant.25
He was buried in the Christiansted Anglican churchyard on 20 March 1762.26

3. Nathaniel Lillie was born in about 1735, and owned property on St. Croix.
He was a brother to Thomas Lillie.27
In February 1758, he was listed for the first time as living in Christiansted with
one enslaved person.28
He married on St. Croix, on 26 June 1760, Ann Osborn, who was born on
Antigua, on 22 January 1739/40, daughter of George Lucas Osborn (1713-1762) and
Jane Renaudet (1717-1803?)*.29
In November 1760, he was living with his wife and enslaved people in King’s
Street, Christiansted.30
She died on 17 December 1763 and was buried in the Christiansted Anglican
churchyard on 18 December 1763, aged 23.31
In 1765, he was living in his brother Thomas Lillie’s house in King’s Street, listed
as 1 man, & 2 boys in addition to enslaved individuals.32
In the years, from 1769 to 1772, he was living in Customs Director Porth’s house
in Hospital Street, Christiansted, alone, with, in some years, a white servant and several
enslaved people.33
He was married on 21 November 1776 at Dorcas Lillie's residence on St. Croix by
the Anglican Minister to Mary Rogers.34

5. Jane Harriett Lillie was born on St. Croix on Friday, 21 August 1761, and
was baptized in the Christiansted Anglican Church on 20 September 1761, by the Rev’d.
Mr. Goodchild.40
She married in Philadelphia, PA on 5 August 1791, Peter Renaudet Chevalier,
born about 1762, son of Peter Chevalier (c1720-?) & Mary Renaudet (c1725-?).41
She died on 14 August 1842. 42
6. Maria/Mary Lillie was born on St. Croix, on 3 September 1762 and baptized
in the Christiansted Anglican Church on 4 October 1762, by the Rev’d. Mr. Goodchild.43
She died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 26 March 1773 of smallpox, and was
buried at Christ Church, on Saturday, 27 March 1773.44
7. Mary Dorcas Lillie was born on 14 December 1777 and baptized in the
Christiansted Anglican Church on 25 January 1778.45

Christiansted Anglican Church on 13 February 1780.46
------------------------Johanna Lillie/Lilly was born on St. Croix in about 1786 and was baptized in the
Anglican Church. 47
In October 1841, she was living at 17 Company Street, Christiansted, a
pensioner.48
In October 1846, she was living at 17 Company Street, Christiansted, unmarried
and a pensioner. 49
In May 1850, she was living at 17 Company Street, Christiansted, a pensioner.50
