Knights of Columbus Cardinal Gibbons Assembly #150 916 S. Scott Street Middletown, Delaware 19709-1346 Meets 1st Mondays at 7:30pm Holy Family Church, Rt. 4 & Gender Road Newark, Delaware SPRING 2004 NEWSLETTER SPECIAL EDITION Faithful Navigator’s Message Spring has sprung, the crack of the bat on the baseball can heard throughout the stadium, and the Assembly is looking forward to a profitable season with our Blue Rocks Concession Stand Fundraiser. Thanks to the brother Sir Knights and their families who willing give up their time to staff the concession stands, the Assembly maintains the funds to remain a strong functioning, charitable Catholic patriotic organization. Half of all monies earned are used for Assembly maintenance (mailings, hall donation, snacks, equipment repair, etc.) while the other half is earmarked for charitable purposes. So if you care to help out the Assembly while having a great time at the ballpark with your fellow KofC families, please call Don Wonchoba to volunteer your services. Remember, we need volunteer names into the stadium personal one-week prior to the games. On May 22, the Assembly brothers will participate in a celebration of Mass at St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Ct., fraternize with our brother Knights of St. Mary’s Council over lunch, and then tour the Supreme Headquarters Museum before returning home in the evening. Brother Sir Knight and Faithful Captain Marty Reynolds has put together a great little get-a-way for us at an incredibly low cost. Make your reservations soon so you don’t get left behind. There are only 50 seats on the bus, and it’s filling up quickly. Call Marty today! Our Worthy Master has reminded me that Elections are mandated to be held at our May 3 meeting. I have really enjoyed my first year as Faithful Navigator, but after much thought and consideration, I feel that it is time to pass the gavel on to a new leader. I intend to still serve the Assembly in whatever capacity that I can, and whatever capacity my brother Sir Knights deem appropriate, but I must now turn a little more attention to family and career obligations. There are other opportunities in my personal journey of faith that I intend to explore, and I hope to get more involved with my Parish. I wholeheartedly endorse our Worthy Faithful Captain, Martin Reynolds, in his bid to become the new Faithful Navigator. Marty has been a very active participant in our Assembly and has shown that he has the heart, skill, and forethought to lead the Assembly in new directions. I have appointed our Faithful Trustees as our nominating committee. While nominations for positions will be accepted from the floor at our May 3 Election, please speak with our Trustees if you would like to serve the Assembly as an Officer. April Meeting Date CHANGED Because the 1st Monday of April falls during Holy Week and is the same day as the Chrism Mass, and the Order encourages all members and their families to attend the Mass and participate in Holy Week activities, the April business meeting will take place in Holy Family Hall on Monday, April 19 at 7:30pm. Please make a note of this change and attempt to be at this important meeting. Motions Passed - Assembly will spend up to $150.00 to supply a U.S. Flag and accessories to St. Margaret of Scotland Parish Scout Troop 283, as requested by brother Sir Knight Joseph Pickering of St. David Council. - Assembly read and tabled until the April 19 meeting a resolution to change the By-laws to suspend all dues and fees to 4th Degree members who are 70 years of age and have been 4th Degree members for 25 years. This will be voted on at the April 19 meeting, and passed on for consideration at the Biennial Meeting on April 29, 2004. Please attend to let your opinion of this change be known. Biennial Meeting The Master of the 4th Degree has scheduled the Biennial Meeting for Thursday evening, April 29 at the Dover Council Columbian Home in Camden, Delaware. Dinner will be served at 7pm, with the meeting beginning at 8 pm. Cardinal Gibbons Assembly will be represented by FN Leon Gratkowski, SD Vincent DiLeonardo, and FC Martin Reynolds as Delegates, with PFN Donald Wonchoba, PFN Bill Baker, and ST James Gardner as Alternates. The Assembly will pay the costs of the dinner for any Cardinal Gibbons Assembly brother Sir Knight who attends. All Sir Knights are encouraged to attend. Two Cardinal Gibbons By-law changes will be considered at the Biennial Meeting: 1) To change the amount of money allowed to be allocated at an Assembly Business meeting to $350.00 by affirmative vote of 2/3 the members present without prior notification of the Assembly membership. 2) To change the requirements for a suspension of Assembly dues to 70 years of age with 25 years of 4th Degree membership ( if passed at April 19 meeting). Our Worthy Master, William Lawler intends to run for a second term as Master. Anyone interested in the position of District Marshall should send their resume along with a short explanation of why they feel they merit this job to William Lawler, 9 Ravenworth CT., Newark, DE 19702-4086 asap. Day of the Unborn In addition to the many local Day of the Unborn activities on March 25, the Master would like a strong showing of Color Corp members in attendance at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC for the 7pm Mass. He still has room in his van for more brother Sir Knights, and has asked that anyone who is willing to drive please contact him so carpools can be arranged. Bus Trip to Supreme The Assembly bus trip to Supreme is scheduled for Saturday, May 22. The cost is $30 per person for the bus, and reservations can be had by sending a check along with your name, phone number, Council number, and number of people attending to Martin Reynolds, 117 Panorama Dr., Newark, DE 19711 as soon as possible.
