Faithful Navigator Message
Thanks to all who joined us at our February social; 12 Sir Knights with their Ladies had a great time! A good
turnout for our prayer service at Holy Spirit was followed by a wonderful dinner at Flavors of Italy.
We are approaching the end of another fraternal year and I hope that some of our ‘younger’ Sir Knights step
forward to take up the banner for our Assembly. To that end, I’ve asked SK Mike Horten to chair a nominating
committee that includes SK Paul Nelson, SK Ed Szelengiewicz and SK Jerry Young. Please welcome these
Brothers when they approach you to take on a leadership place within our Assembly – or better yet, approach
any one of these men and volunteer to take on a chair.
Captain’s Corner
I guess the groundhog was correct this year - with all the snow falling, and the temperatures hovering around
zero. Oh well, I have it on good authority it will warm up soon. What a hoot our prayer service and the social at
Taste of Italy were. Everyone had a good time - even the patrons that just dropped in to have a meal.
Someone there mentioned that when we all said our prayer before the meal it really impressed them. I took my
wife and sister to the fish fry at St Jude the other Friday. They have an excellent meal for just $6.00, and that
coupled with Ash Wednesday just reminds me of how close we are to celebrating Easter. The Easter season
just seems to impress upon me what my religion is all about. Christ’s sacrifice has allowed me an easier path
to a permanent place with him, when my time here on earth is finished.

At our May business meeting, there will be elections for Officers for the 2015-2016 Fraternal Year. Sir Knights
are needed for Faithful Navigator, Faithful Pilot, Inner and Outer Sentinel. SK Mike Horten is chairing the
Nominating Committee. There will be a list of candidates in the April Newsletter. Contact Mike and volunteer
to serve.

Now This Is Interesting.....
In 1858, a girl named Bernadette reported apparitions of Mary at a hillside in Lourdes, France. Sick
people visited the site and were cured. Over 1,300 cures are well documented. In the 1930s, Alexis
Carrel, a skeptical New York surgeon and Nobel Prize winner, went to Lourdes to investigate the claims.
While there, he witnessed a girl being cured. He stood in silence, totally stunned. That night, he went
for a long walk. Ending up in a church, he prayed:
“I still doubt...Beneath...intellectual pride a smothered dream persists...the dream of believing.” He
returned to his hotel and recorded his observations. In The Voyage to Lourdes, he describes what then
happened. “A new coolness penetrated the open window. I felt the serenity of nature enter my soul
with gentle calm. All intellectual doubts have vanished.”
