Schools Recycling and Refuse Service 2015/16 Introduction We are keeping our schools Recycling and Refuse Collection service the same for the 2015/16 financial year, but will be changing our prices slightly to keep them in line with the increase in inflation. If your school is interested in starting or renewing its contract from 1st April 2015 please contact us at Andrew.prestt@n-somerset.gov.uk or 01934 426195. Please note – We will continue providing your school the same service from 1st April 2015 unless you contact us to say you would like a service change or do not want to continue your service with us. Changes to the Recycling service For the 2015/16 financial year our service will remain as the following: Bin 1 - Paper, cardboard, and drinks and food cartons (tetra-pak) Bin 2 - Tins, cans, aerosols, foil, and plastic bottles and containers Bin 3 - Mixed glass bottles and jars You will be individually charged for each recycling bin option you request and can have either 1,100 or 360 litre bins depending on your requirements. Where you have a recycling bin for one material (eg. paper, cardboard etc) if you wish to have a second bin for another recycling material (eg. plastic bottles, tins etc or glass bottles and jars) this bin will be half price. There will be no changes to the refuse collection service. Each school will have the option of either 1,100 litre or 360L bins. Costs Recycling 1,100L bin (any recycling material) £6.25 360L bin (any recycling material) £6.25 1,100L bin (for second or third £3.15 recycling materials bin) 360L bin (for second or third £3.15 recycling materials bin) 1,100L bin 360L bin Refuse £15.26 per bin £8.11 per bin No side waste collections We are no longer able to provide a service where we can collect side waste from bins overflowing with waste. This is to stop the collection vehicles becoming overly full and having to tip refuse or recycling before the collection round has been completed. Food waste collections We are still continuing with food waste collections and there will be no change to the food waste collection service. We are not currently able to provide costs for this as the collection will be provided by another company, Edwards and Ward. However, these prices will remain competitive and will be significantly lower than sending food waste to landfill. Other important information All bin lids must be completely shut. If the bin lids cannot be closed because the bin is overly full any excess bags of waste will be taken out of the bin and not collected. If we attempt to collect from your school, but are unable to gain access due to the gates being locked and we have not been made aware in advance you will be charged the full amount for that collection. We do not collect for the two week holiday periods over Christmas and Easter, and for the summer holidays unless you inform us in advance any collection requirements you have for holiday periods. Future communications This information will be available on www.sla-online.co.uk throughout the year. We will also be using this website to promote other services the Recycling and Waste Team provide such as educational visits, waste audits and workshops. Please keep an eye on the www.sla-online.co.uk website for new initiatives we will be running throughout the year such as schools recycling competitions, Electrical Waste Amnesty events and campaigns the council will be running.
