What can go in to the green bin?








All food and garden waste;
Garden;
Grass cuttings
Shrub prunings & hedge trimmings
Garden weeds, plants & leaves
Flowers
Bedding from herbivorous animals (rabbits & guinea pigs) sawdust, hay
Tree branches (cut up, less than 30cm circumference/1metre length)








Food; (please only compostable caddy liners (not biodegradable))
Meat and fish - raw and cooked including bones
Fruit and vegetables - raw and cooked including peelings
Dairy products such as eggs and cheese
Bread, cakes and pastries
Rice, pasta and beans
Uneaten food from your plates and dishes
Tea bags and coffee grounds
What can’t go in to the green bin?








cat or dog faeces
soil
rubble
plastic carrier bags
general refuse or recyclable items
Plant pots
Plastic flowers
Anything other than listed in “what can go in to the green bin”
Why?
Items from the green bin are sent to be turned in to compost, items other than listed cannot
be composted and will contaminate the load. Read more in “what happens next”
