SOUTHGATE RECYCLING PROGRAM The City of Southgate has adopted a curbside recycling program. Federal and State mandates require cities to reduce their input to sanitary landfills by 25%. Studies by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency reports that 80% of what the nation discards as municipal waste could be recycled! Southgate’s curbside recycling program provides once a week collection of trash and recyclable materials on Tuesday. The City of Southgate needs the support of our citizens to be successful. Items that can accumulated for curbside recycling pickup include: Paper and newsprint Acceptable: Newspaper, telephone books, computer paper, office paper and magazines. Not Acceptable: Wax paper wrapping paper, tissue paper, diapers. Glass: Acceptable: Not Acceptable: Glass bottles (all colors), glass jars. Broken mirrors, windowpanes. Aluminum: Acceptable: Not Acceptable: All beverage cans. Pie plates, contaminated aluminum foil. Corrugated Cardboard: Acceptable: Boxed broken down to 2 ft. by 4 ft. Not Acceptable: Boxes not broken down, pizza boxes. Anything contaminated by food. Ferrous Metal Cans: Acceptable: Bi-metal, tin or steel cans, soup, tuna, pet food or coffee cans. Not Acceptable: Kerosene, gasoline or aerosol cans Plastics: Acceptable: Not Acceptable: PET, HDPE two-liter, soda, fabric softener, and liquid soap, shampoo bottles, margarine or butter tubs (labeled 1 or 2). Anything higher than 1 or 2, Styrofoam. A group of concerned Southgate citizens have agreed to act as a recycling hot line. They will act as a link between the citizens, City Government and the City’s collector currently CSI Waste Services. Recycling is an important issue in the future of our community, our state and our nation. The Northern Kentucky Solid Waste Plan incorporates recycling as a vital segment of its plan for the future. The citizens of Southgate have always been responsive to issues of public importance and together we will make the curbside recycling program in Southgate a model for all of Northern Kentucky. CSI will accept large items as part of your regular trash service on Tuesdays. Items containing Freon must be certified “Freon free.” If you need assistance having freon removed please call 441-5166 for disposal information. Your are welcome to bring items to the Covington Transfer Station on Boron Drive in Covington, call CSI for pricing and directions.
