Sustainable Event Planning Guide We’ve put together this document to help in planning your event. Chapin believes that sustainable practices reinforce the virtues that are so vital to the life of our school and the development of our children. Paper products: All the paper products you need can be found in the garage of the business office. They are recyclable when no food residue is present and will decompose in the landfill much more quickly than traditional. The utensils are made of cornstarch. Sharon Gomberg, sgomberg@chapinschool.org, should be contacted before and after the event to ensure that we keep track of how much we use and when we need to re-order. Drinks: We want to encourage healthy eating habits in our kids. Therefore, please do not serve soda. There are attractive water dispensers in the garage of the business office if your event is large. If it is smaller, please provide water from gallon jugs rather than individual bottles or use the bottle filling stations in school if that is an option. Food: Again, please help Chapin encourage healthy eating habits. Be very aware of the allergy policy. There should be plentiful healthy options alongside the treats. Recycling: Please make sure there are enough recycling cans and trash cans and that they are well labeled. There are extras to be used for events. Ask Sharon or the Sustainability chairperson where they are stored. There are also laminated signs that clip onto the recycling bins which help identify what can and cannot be put into them Look for the signs on the shelves near the paper ware. For most events, there shouldn’t be much to recycle except the empty water cups, if no plastic bottles are used. Mike and his crew will dump the cans at the end of the event. Please make sure that they are restacked and placed back wherever they originated.
