Enzyme model instructions
Step 1: Cut out all the enzymes, substrates, and products from the handout
Step 2: Organize the cut outs on the construction paper so the pieces demonstrate these
chemical reactions:
Reaction 1: enzyme + substrate → enzyme-substrate complex → enzyme + product 1 +
product 2
Reaction 2: enzyme + product 1+ product 2  enzyme-substrate complex  enzyme +
substrate
Step 3: Check your answers with Dr. Hyde, then glue your cut-outs onto your paper
Step 4: Label the cutouts using the following words:
 Enzyme
 Substrate
 Products
 Active Site
 Enzyme-Substrate Complex
Step 5: At the bottom of the page, answer the following questions in COMPLETE SENTENCES:
1) What is the definition of an enzyme?
2) What is a substrate?
3) Which molecule contains the active site?
4) Which is re-usable, an enzyme or the substrate? (Explain using your picture)
If you finish early, for extra credit you can create your own cut-outs or draw your own
representation of enzyme-substrate reaction (see examples if you need help)
