Artist James C. Christensen painting, The Pink Ribbon, was created exclusively for a national breast cancer
awareness promotion launched by the Greenwich Workshop, Inc. (North America’s leading publisher of fine
art limited editions) and its Authorized Dealers. Lord Nelson’s Gallery is one of only a handful of Authorized
Greenwich Workshop dealers nationwide to offer the The Pink Ribbon as an open edition fine art print on
paper, 11 x 14 inches, at $30, and in a Fine Art Limited Edition Giclée Canvas, signed by the artist and
numbered in an edition of just 250. Ten percent of the retail price of all pieces sold from both editions
will be donated by the publisher to a national breast cancer awareness organization, funds to be
used to support breast cancer initiatives.
The History of Lord Nelson’s Gallery
“Lord Nelson’s Gallery has changed quite a bit over the past 15 years, comments owner, Philippe du Bois.
“The store was actually born in 1989 and named ‘Around the World Imports’ which was located between
where we are now and the Blue Parrot Bistro next door (the space is now the courtyard between the two
buildings). You would have found Belgian lace and chocolates, Alaskan jewelry and native crafts,
Guatemalan bags and blankets and Black Hills Gold jewelry. In March of 1990, we moved next door and
the rest is Lord Nelson’s history. The business was renamed to ‘Lord Nelson’s’ in honor of George’s black
lab at the time, Nelson. At that point, you began to see wildlife T-shirts, backpacks, figurines, more
Guatemalan things, environmentally oriented children’s toys and wildlife art. Eventually the name became
‘Lord Nelson’s Nature Store & Gallery’ to better reflect the products offered. The historical art aspect of the
business first appeared in 1993 and what you find today as ‘Lord Nelson’s Gallery’ is the evolution over the
past 15 years in business.”
Major Renovations and The James Gettys Hotel
“In 1995-1996, through the generosity of Lord Nelson’s partner Alan Hoeweler, we purchased the entire
building and began the extensive renovation of turning what was the Youth Hostel into an eleven room suite
hotel, The James Gettys Hotel,” states Philippe du Bois. “During this construction, Lord Nelson’s expanded
to the second floor and opened what was the more formal gallery space - home to much of the historical art,
bronze sculpture and original paintings. The James Gettys Hotel (re)opened in September 1996.
‘Reopened’ because this building was The James Gettys Hotel in the early to mid-1900s.”
The Changes Today
There have been many changes at Lord Nelson’s Gallery during the past several months. Today, you’ll find
the gallery has moved all onto one level, with the extra space coming from what used to be Thistlefield’s
Tea Room next door. The decision was made to convert what was the upstairs gallery for Lord Nelson’s into
an additional hotel suite, and take what was upstairs and move it to where the Tea Room was - this was
done by connecting the two storefronts by way of an opening in the rear of the store. Lord Nelson’s Gallery
now offers better access to view all the art and wares at the gallery than you ever before. Additional street
exposure is a plus and it all creates a more welcoming atmosphere to the gallery.
The Majestic Suite Opens
Through this latest round of renovations, the James Gettys Hotel now has twelve suites to offer travelers
and residents alike. Upon entering the suite, you walk directly into the living room complete with kitchen/bar

and entertainment area. You pass through into the grand
bedroom, with armoire, fireplace and king size bed. Finally,
there is the modern bathroom with double sinks, Jacuzzi tub
and two person shower. All beautifully coordinated with
fabrics, colors and plush carpeting. The suite is majestic and,
it’s named after Gettysburg’s local theater that is now
undergoing a $16 million renovation project slated to open
November 2005.
“We are thrilled to be collaborating with The Greenwich
Workshop and to have this opportunity to bring art together
with the fight against breast cancer,” said Philippe du Bois,
director of Lord Nelson’s Gallery.“ This collaboration brings the
importance of breast cancer awareness to the public in a very
visual way. I would love to see this beautiful breast cancer
image hang in every doctor’s office in Gettysburg.”
