READING PROMOTION PROJECT:
“A WORLD OF TALES”, CEIP “NTRA. SRA. DE LOS ÁNGELES” EL
ESPARRAGAL (MURCIA)
SUMMARY
The intent of this project is to go out onto the streets of different towns and cities all
over the world in order to find, learn and compile traditional tales, recreating not only
the world of fantasy and fun they evoke, but also benefiting from the lessons they teach
us.
Aside from being essential elements for communication and information transfer,
reading and writing are also endowed with powerful attributes of expression and
enjoyment that enable us to become reacquainted with the world around us in a
pleasurable manner. Reading belongs to the realm of leisure and personal growth, and
it is precisely this aesthetic function that we wish to promote with this project. To this
end, we turn to activities and resources rescued from the oral tradition, the true living
memories of peoples, and the ample collection of stories from children’s literature,
using them to leverage and guide the thirst we all have for stories and for new
sensations and experiences.
Our wish is for all to be able to enjoy these tales in a natural way, filling the
imaginations of both kids and adults alike with fantasy. Being able to share them is a
gift for us all.
AIMS
 Promoting the pleasure of listening and reading comprehension through the use
of tales
 Expanding the pupils’ knowledge of the world around us
 Getting to know and enjoying tales from different countries
 Using the reading to understand the culture, customs and special
characteristics of other countries
 Stimulating the pupils’ creativity, imagination and emotive nature by reading
tales
ACTIVITIES
 Compiling stories and tales from countries all over the world, representing all
five continents
 Reading the tales out loud
 Adapting one of the tales compiled for a theatrical performance
 Writing a travelling book with stories and tales from around the world, told and
illustrated by the children themselves, with the involvement of their parents
 Using the visual arts to recreate or invent the places, characters and customs
depicted in the different stories covered in the classroom
 Creating a puzzle book related to the tales covered, adapted to the pupils’ level
and age, and including activities such as find-the-error games, quizzes,
puzzles, hidden sentences, word searches, etc.
 Presentation of the work
PURPOSE
By the end of the project, we will have produced the following:
 Publication in print of the tales that have been compiled
 Publication in CD format of the travelling book with the text and illustrations
created by the children with the help of their parents
 Design of a “Tales of the World” Web Quest, which would include at least one
tale with activities from each continent
