They often have the necessary skills and backgrounds for careers as sales representatives and business executives or in teaching communications. Career Opportunities Degree Options People who excel in oral communications are often the highest paid career people in the business world today. Opportunities for the speech/drama majors include: Advertising Sales Marketing Acting/Directing Technical Theatre Personnel Teaching Public Relations Playwright Students who are interested in speech or drama can receive an Associate of Arts degree from Seward County Community College/Area Technical School that will give them a firm foundation of courses, enabling them to transfer to a four-year college. Students are encouraged to work with their advisers and the transfer coordinator of the colleges that they wish to attend following graduation from SCCC/ATS in order to assure a smooth transition. Advising The SCCC/ATS Speech and Drama instructors will help you plan your direction and courses of study for careers related to Speech and Drama. You will need to contact the Admissions Office to visit the campus and meet with an adviser at the time of your visit. The course of study is designed to transfer to the fouryear university of your choice so that you can complete your academic endeavors. Facilities The beautiful SCCC/ATS Showcase Theatre is designed very much like some of the smaller Broadway theatres allowing us the possibility of using several scenic backdrops. The costume department is very extensive and well-stocked for all major needs. The computerized lighting software and sound systems are up-to-date and state-of-the-art for SCCC/ATS theatre size and needs. Also, the theatre has recently undergone aesthetic renovations, including carpeting, seats and curtains. Clubs/Organizations There are a number of clubs available for students to participate in. Contact the Admissions office for a complete list of clubs and organizations. The Drama Department has several productions for student participation.
