HMC & ISIC SUBJECT SPECIALIST PEER REVIEW SCHEME
Overview
HMC and ISI Consultancy are proud to introduce the Subject Specialist Peer Review Scheme available to all HMC
schools. This new and exciting opportunity was built on the successful pilot project between HMC subject specialists
and ISI Consultancy in 2014.
A new scheme and deployment model has been developed to provide an opportunity for HMC schools to access
targeted and cost effective peer reviews in specific subjects combined with a fantastic opportunity for individuals
with a subject specialism to access expert training in core inspection and consultancy skills.
The first stage of the programme will focus on recruiting and training peer review teams from four core subject
areas; English, Maths, Science and Modern Foreign Languages and will involve approximately 20 subject specialists.
The second stage of the programme will involve the training of an additional 80 HMC Subject Specialists, with the
scope expanded to include additional specialisms in subjects and aspects not represented in the first intake.
How the Programme works
Heads of HMC schools are asked to nominate their best Subject Specialists to participate in the programme and
complete the application form. The closing date for phase 1 applications is 29 May 2015. HMC and ISI Consultancy
will then carefully select up to 20 individuals across the four subject areas based on skills, experience and an analysis
of subject performance. Schools and individuals are required to commit to the following:
 Releasing to ISI Consultancy subject performance data on request in order to help with the selection process
 Ability to attend training in London 28th and 29th October 2015
 Willingness to be deployed on at least one subject consultancy of 2 days in duration each academic year upon
successful completion of the training
Training 28-29th October 2015
Training will take place at the ISIC Training Centre in central London and will cost £500 for each individual selected.
An overnight stay for the delegates will be provided.
The training will consist of 2 full days focused on the development
of key skills in areas such as lesson observations, work scrutiny
and interviews with students and staff as well as in core
consultancy skills.

Please note that not all those who participate in the training will necessarily be successful, and further registration
onto the Subject Specialist Peer Review Team will only be confirmed following an assessment by HMC and ISI
Consultancy.
Deployment
HMC members will be able to request a subject or departmental review from the Subject Specialist Peer Review
Teams for deployment from January 2016.
The cost of these reviews will start from £475 and include a 2 day visit from up to two Subject Specialist Peer Review
Team members along with a written report detailing findings and recommendations quality assured by ISI
Consultancy. The schools of Peer Review Team members will receive an honorarium payment of £100 per consultant
per review.
