WORKSHOP MEETING ON SEISMIC ANISOTROPY AND GEODYNAMICS OF THE LITHOSHPERE-ASTHENOSPHERE SYSTEM organized by Geophysical Institute, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Prague and Department of Geology and Geodynamics, Yale University, New Haven, USA Chateau of Trest, Czech Republic (southern Moravia) June 17 - 21, 2006 Initial announcement and call for mailing registration The goal of this workshop is to bring together both scientists and students working in the fields of observational and theoretical seismology, tectonics, mineral physics, and experimental petrology to discuss mainly the following topics: Scales of mantle heterogeneity and anisotropy. Regional and global studies. Mantle deformation seen by seismic anisotropy measurements. Models of anisotropic mantle fabrics resulting from ancient and recent processes. Constraints from textures in xenoliths and exposed mantle sections. Mechanical interactions between the lithosphere and asthenosphere. Surface tectonic style and the underlying mantle flow The role of water in the development of anisotropy The workshop, organized under the auspices of the IASPEI and ILP, is linked in spirit with three previous international meetings held in the Czech Republic in 1976 (Castle of Liblice), 1986 (Castle of Bechyne) and 1996 (Castle of Trest). Informal discussions and exchange of ideas will be emphasised. Deadline for pre-registration and abstract: March 31, 2006 (capacity of the Chateau is 80 persons) Registration fee: before March 31, 2006 - 400EUR, after March 31, 2006 - 470 EUR, Conference materials, full board for 4 days, social programme (welcome party, excursion to Telc Castle, concert or theatre, barbeque or banquet) and local transportation between Prague and Trest are included. Accommodation is to be paid extra, with prices varying around 20-30 EUR per person/night. The fee for accompanying persons (300 EUR) includes also participation in the accompanying-person programme, several one-day trips to nearby places of historical or tourist attraction. contact email: jpl@ig.cas.cz www.ig.cas.cz Jaroslava Plomerova Vladislav Babuska Geophysical Institute, Czech Academy of Sciences Bocni II/1401 141 31 Praha 4, Czech Republic FAX: +420-272 761 549 Phone: +420-267 103 391 E-mail: jpl@ig.cas.cz FAX: +420-272 761 549 Phone: +420-267 103 049 Email:babuska@ig.cas.cz Jeffrey Park Yale Univ., Depth. of Geol. and Geophys.
