Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) and Praxis II (Content Area) Computer‐based Tests
Core:
* entry requirement to ETEP
* admission requirement to the professional internship year for undergraduate teacher preparation pathways
* requirement for recommendation for initial teacher certification
Praxis II:
* taken during internship for ETEP students
* admission requirement to the professional internship year for undergraduate teacher preparation pathways
* requirement for recommendation initial teacher certification

(Composite Score):
468
(Maine applicants for initial teacher certification must obtain a composite score of (468) on the three sections of
the Core, with no single score on any section being more than three points lower than the required score).
For those who still need sections of the PPST (discontinued 8/14), their only option is to take the Core in that
subject area (this combination of tests is possible through 8/18). Applicants must obtain minimum passing scores
in each test area, the composite score in these instances, does not apply.
Core and Praxis II Registration:
Test dates/ registration is available on‐line through Education Testing Services (ETS) at:

**Include both USM (R 3691) and MDOE (R7368) as score recipients**
Core and Praxis II Test Fees:
~~Core: Reading ($90) Writing ($90) Mathematics ($90)
Tests may be scheduled for and taken at different times/ dates at a cost of $90.00 each
Tests may be scheduled to be taken on the same day (5 hour block) for a combined test fee of $150.00
~~Praxis II content tests range in cost from $120.00 ‐ $160.00 each
