Assessment Report July 1, 2006 - June 30, 2007 PROGRAM(S) ASSESSED BS (Integrated science) ASSESSMENT COORDINATOR Jim Tomlin YEAR _3_________ of a _4_________YEAR CYCLE 1. ASSESSMENT MEASURES EMPLOYED Briefly describe the assessment measures employed during the year. What was done? The Physics, Chemistry, and General Science Praxis II Test scores were obtained for selected program completers to assess undergraduate integrated science knowledge . Graduation data was obtained from COSM Licensure data was obtained from TED Who participated in the process? Students who The Physics, Chemistry, and General Science Praxis II Test for that year and whose scores were reported to WSU Praxis II data base. COSM Deans office and TED reported graduation and licensure data respectively. What challenges (if any) were encountered? Originally it was intended to also report Praxis III data but we were unable to obtain access to those scores. 2. ASSESSMENT FINDINGS List the objectives and outcomes assessed during the year, and briefly describe the findings for each. The learning outcomes of the program were identified as: a. knowledge of specific to the fields of chemistry and physics as well as major ideas common to both fields, including the nature of matter and interactions of energy and matter. SUMMARY MATRIX (n=4) Score (avg. rating across students) 11.75/24 Range II. CHEM:MOLE/PERIO DICITY/REACTIONS /SOLUTIONS/STRU CTURAL/DESCRIPTI VE/SAFETY 12.75/32 7-22 III. NATURE/INTERACTI ON OF ENERGY AND 7-16 A cohort of two students graduated from the program, passed The Physics, Chemistry, and General Science Praxis II Test and obtained admission to graduate school. Two students obtained provisional licensure and employment. Benchmarks of successes are determined by: 80% of WSU integrated science education students pass the PRAXIS II tests. This benchmark was met (2/2) 80% of WSU integrated science education students pass each component subscale of the PRAXIS II tests with a minimum of 75%. This benchmark was met on only 1out 5 subscales (i.e. life science) 90% of WSU integrated science education students seeking employment succeed within one year of entering the job market. This benchmark was met (2/2) 80% of WSU integrated science education students pass the PRAXIS III assessment. This benchmark could not be measured 3. PROGRAM IMPROVEMENTS No changes were made to curriculum 4. ASSESSMENT PLAN COMPLIANCE Explain deviations from the plan (if any). Again PIII data was unobtainable 5. NEW ASSESSMENT DEVELOPMENTS Describe developments (if any) regarding assessment measures, communication, faculty or staff involvement, benchmarking, or other assessment variables. We will not be using PIII data in future assessments. Moreover we will reevaluate the realistic goal levels for benchmark attainment for the second Benchmark.
