Thank you for your interest in the Student Voices Campaign The Student Voices Campaign (SVC) invites students to make videos that communicate their creativity and passion for the arts and share them with their local school board by April 1, 2016. This fall, the California Alliance for Arts Education will release a Teacher’s guide so that the campaign can be used as a project-based learning opportunity in classrooms. We are looking for teachers to pilot the guide in their classrooms between January 1 – April 1, 2016. We are seeking teachers from a variety of subject areas (Media Arts, Theater, Art, Music, History/Social Study, CTE and English) grades 7-12 to participate. Sign up below to pilot the guide in your classroom. About the guide: With support from the California Arts Council, the Alliance is developing a classroom guide that will: Offer several tracks from a very simple process that takes just 6 classroom periods to a longer engagement that goes more deeply into art-making and civic engagement Use California Social Studies Standards and National Core Media Arts Standards to guide process, outcomes and assessment; other Arts and Common Core Standards will also be referenced as appropriate. Provide a pathway for students to participate in community discussions and planning related to district’s Local Control Accountability Plans (LCAPs) Pilot the Guide: We are looking for 5-10 public school teachers to pilot the guide, offer feedback, and provide documentation of their experience for a stipend of $275. In addition, these teachers will be eligible for a travel scholarship to attend and bring one student to the Student Voices Screen & Digital Empowerment event in May 2016 in San Francisco. Here’s the feedback and documentation we require pilot teachers to submit: Surveys: Teachers and students complete surveys at the start and end of the project. Written documentation: Teachers provide 500 words of written feedback on one of several topics that will be published on the campaign site line with credit. Topics might include (Tips to help other teachers succeed, What innovations did you try? Overcoming obstacles, Ah ha moments). We also ask teacher’s to share any materials they created or used for the project (Specific warm up exercises for Anticipatory sets, sample handouts or Powerpoints presentations) Documentation: Help us promote your project and the benefits of arts learning! We ask that you/your students provide a total of 3-4 short videos (30 seconds to 2 minutes each) that document the project. Documentation can include: o Student(s) offering one tip to other students doing the project o Student(s) speaking to other students about what they got out of the project o Teacher speaking about one benefit of the project o Teacher offering one tip to other teachers who use the guide Pilot teachers will be invited to participate in check in calls and webinars to support their work throughout the year.
