Pilot Shortage/Airline Safety Act/Pilot Training Funding Crisis – The Perfect Storm
Nightmare scenario – Congress passes law to allow airline pilots to fly until age 65, airline
pilot image and reality clash as bankruptcies and labor contracts change the landscape for
the profession, global financial crisis stops pilot training funding dead in its tracks,
tremendous global expansion of aircraft deliveries strain pilot supply, Congress passes “1500
Hour Rule”. All of these events occurred in the last five years, creating the perfect storm
that will begin to affect all airlines within the next two years. The presentation will focus on
the effects of all stakeholders of this “Perfect Storm”.
