Nurse Practitioner – Part time Position
Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Practice located in Houston, Texas
Position Summary
Overview:
Our Nurse Practitioner (NP) will be a Registered Nurse with who is currently approved to practice as
an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Texas. The NP will work under the supervision of the practice
physician/s to render care to our pediatric patients. NP will practice under established protocols and
will assume independent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of treatment and
procedures.
Responsibilities:
Render follow-up and post-operative care to pediatric ENT patients; perform relevant patient
assessments and physical examinations. Coordinate, direct and implement patient plan of care. Order,
conduct and interpret pertinent laboratory and diagnostic studies and procedures. Make medical
recommendations and referrals. Maintain appropriate records detailing the patient treatment plans
and outcomes. Educate patient/family relative to treatment plan, medication and other related
concerns. Facilitate the implementation and utilization of electronic medical record, appropriate
patient billing and participate in daily operations of the practice.
Knowledge and Skills:
Fundamental knowledge of pediatric assessment and treatment. Ideally will have experience in
pediatric otorhinolaryngology and knowledge of OSHA guidelines/requirements and HIPAA
confidentiality rules. Required skills include the ability to use otolaryngology equipment (microscope,
ear suction, otoscope); proficiency in recognition of ENT disease processes and medical conditions;
knowledge of post-operative/follow-up complications; treatments such as ear irrigation, extruding ear
tube extraction; strep-test administration and knowledge required to diagnose and recommend
medical/surgical treatment. Familiarity with all business office machines, i.e., EMR, computer,
telephone, copier and fax machines. Desire to learn system and serve as interface in implementation
and utilization of electronic medical record. Bi-lingual English/Spanish is preferred.
Education, Licensure and Experience:
* A Master’s Degree in Nursing
* Current, valid, unencumbered license as a registered nurse (RN) from the Texas Board of Nursing
* Current certification initial certification and maintenance of certification by national certifying
bodies recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner (NP), Pediatric Nurse
Practitioner (PNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
Salary Range:
$42-$48 per hour, commensurate with experience. Affiliation with Texas Children’s Hospital and
benefit participation possible in near future.
Work Location:
Texas Medical Center. Relocation not covered by practice.
