You get to imagine what it would have been like to live during this time period and create a character based on your research! First: Pick a character in the American Revolution; boy or girl age 12-18 working or apprenticing at any of the following jobs: Butcher, baker, candlestick makers, shipwright, wheelwright, sawyer, carpenter, silversmith, gunsmith, slave, freedman, blacksmith, printer, farmer, merchant, seamstress, cobbler, wagon maker, glass maker, furniture maker, cloth maker, sail maker, rope maker, soap maker, soldier, sailor, miner, woodcutter, barber, doctor, soldier, officer, blacksmith, cook, servant, horse trainer, messenger, tailor, doctor, undertaker, coffin maker, carpenter, drummer, and bugler. Are they in a city-town or rural? What kinds of tools would they need to do their job? What kind of education or schooling would they have? How did they get their work? Once you have done your research, you will decide if your character is a loyalist (loyal to the British crown) or a patriot/revolutionary. Why does your character side with his/her choice? Be prepared to argue your point of view and present your character to the class.
