Year 4s trip to the castle On Wednesday the 6 of January, year 4 went to Norwich castle to find out about the Egyptians and Romans. The class was very excited to see the Roman and Egyptian things. Jenni was our guide. We went with Miss Maibaum and Mrs Diaper, Mrs Fiddy (Sonny’s nanny), Mrs Newton (Marshall’s mum). EGYPTIANS In the Egyptian handling session, we handled shabi, beaded necklaces, rings, animal amulets, god/goddess amulets, canopic jars, clay coffin pieces, earrings, scarabs, bandage from a mummy, a makeup pot, protection beads, face cream pots and wood from a coffin. It was fun handling the objects (and scary to). We also went into the Egyptian Gallery and saw a real mummy. It was a girl but she was in the wrong Mummy case so they did not know much about her. The mummies were over 2000 years old (wow). ROMANS We had a Roman handling session. We had an Egyptian handling session too. In the Roman handling session we handled mosaic tiles, wax tablet, Mortarium, roof tiles, poo stick, stylus, sandals, samian pottery, oil scraper, Hypocaust tiles and wall plaster. The class’ favourite Roman object was the poo stick (it was very funny). Iceni In the Iceni gallery there was a house that was covered in poo but didn’t smell. In the Iceni gallery some of us dressed up as Romans also there was a chariot ride in there too, lots of us had a go. There was coin rubbing as well. We had a lovey day at the castle with Jenni and busy day too. It was amazing (thank you teachers).
