Research Associate National Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Register Project (OHCAR) School of Medicine, NUI Galway Ref. No. NUIG 80-14 Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time fixed term position as a Research Associate with Discipline of General Practice at the National University of Ireland, Galway. The position will be based in the Department of Public Health Medicine, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. This position is funded by the National Ambulance Service and is available from 1st December 2014 to contract end date of 1st December 2015. There after it is anticipated that the project and funding will be reviewed in conjunction with the National Ambulance Service. OHCAR is the National Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Register Project. It is a collaboration between the Discipline of General Practice, the HSE Department of Public Health Medicine, the National Ambulance Service and the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (www.nuigalway.ie/ohcar). Job Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for collection, processing and data analysis of Irish out-of-hospital cardiac arrest incidents. Maintenance of a robust and comprehensive database is an essential requirement of this post in order to support existing OHCAR research The candidate will be expected to support ongoing research in OHCAR and to develop and support the OHCAR research strategy. This will involve engaging with key stakeholders in pre-hospital resuscitation and the production of research proposals as a result of engagement. The successful candidate will also be expected to manage requests from external researchers for OHCAR data access and to support such requests as appropriate. Ireland is a also a member of the European Cardiac Arrest Registry collaboration (EuReCA) and the EuReCa-ONE project. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing data to this collaboration and project. The successful candidate will also be required to provide monthly reports to the National Ambulance Service on OHCA outcomes and to advise and assist in the development of an OHCAR electronic database that will facilitate future OHCAR research. Essential Criteria: Ph.D. in the health-related sciences or equivalent, recognized experience in field. Track record in a research and development environment and strong health service-based (preferable pre-hospital) experience is essential. Experience in using health service systems and health service data, Experience in observational research is also desirable as evidenced by a publication record. Desired Criteria: Excellent communication, organizational and project management skills; be highly motivated and passionate about developing new products; and have strong documentation, oral and interpersonal skills.
