Course Description:
This course will introduce endless career opportunities. Students will research career interests and options.
Students will learn how their skills and interests may lead to a rewarding career. Group activities, guest
speakers, job shadowing, and projects will be a part of the learning process.
Classroom Expectations:
1. Display R.A.R.E characteristics (Respect, Achievement, Responsibility, Excellence). Respect the rights of
all individuals
2. Listen to instruction and follow directions (you will lose points on assignments if you don’t follow the
assignment instructions)
3. Use appropriate voice and language; no cussing, no talking during teacher instruction!
4. Accept responsibility for your own behavior
5. Music devices (not cell phones) with your own headphones may be used during class at
certain times per teacher discretion. Permission from the teacher must be given and the volume should
be at a level that cannot be heard by others. I WILL NOT SUPPLY HEADPHONES FOR PERSONAL USE!
6. Be on time and prepared for class EVERYDAY
“Prepared” means:
i. You have your CLASS BINDER and all materials that are supposed to be inside it.
ii. You have a WRITING UTENSIL—THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO BRING, NOT THE
TEACHERS RESPONSIBILITY TO PROVIDE ONE FOR YOU. If you do not have one you
will NOT be provided one! You may quietly borrow one from another student if they will
share one with you.
7. Computer labs and video production rooms are NO FOOD areas! This includes sweets and candy. If you
bring in food it will be thrown away, so leave it in your locker! You may bring in a
SEALED/CAPPED drink but it must be kept on the back table or the side counter!
School wide policies to pay attention to:
Cell Phones: ********NEW*********
Cell phones must be off and PUT AWAY OUT OF SIGHT during the
entire class period (from bell to bell). If a student is caught using a cell
phone during class, he/she will be sent to the office to turn in their
phone per school policy. No arguments! Parents are to call the office
and not the student. Make sure phones are off or on vibrate. IF IT
RINGS IT’S A VIOLATION!
Consequences:
1st violation—place phone in teacher’s desk drawer (out of sight for safe keeping) and then it
will be returned to you at the end of the period.
2nd violation—give to teacher, who then gives to Mr. Holman, who then requires your PARENT
to come in to get it at the end of the school day.
**Exceptions to this policy may be made by the teacher if determined to be needed as an
instructional tool. For example, if a student needs to use a phone as a camera to complete a
video/photo project AND HAS PRIOR PERMISSION FROM THE INSTRUCTOR.
Attendance/Tardy Policy:
When the tardy bell rings, I will SHUT MY DOOR!!! If a student is not physically in the classroom when
the door is shut and they must open your door to enter your room, they are tardy. When a student acquires 4
tardies report it to Mr. Holman and you will receive a detention.
4 Violations = 1 Detention
PRO ~~ Prepared, Responsible, Organized
You are responsible for coming to class PREPARED. In my classroom this means you have:
a. Binder with dividers and required documents inside
b. Pen or pencil
c. Textbooks (if signed out, otherwise these stay in the classroom.)
4 Violations = 1 Detention
Tardy and Pro violations are combined!!! So if you have 2 tardies and 2 Pro violations that equals 4
violations and will be written up and submitted to Mr. Holman for 1 detention.
Classroom Procedures/Policies:
Class objectives, homework, projects, tests and due dates will be posted daily on the board and on the
teacher web site.
If absent, students are responsible for checking the class schoology web site where I will post daily
agenda’s with the assignments/discussions/or topics from each day. You can also check with a fellow
student for missed assignments and due dates. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KNOWING WHAT YOU
ARE MISSING WHEN ABSENT, not the teacher or other students.
A student will be allowed no more than one additional day than the length of his/her excused absence
to arrange with the teacher for completion of work missed. All work which is not made up will be
assigned as “0.” In no case will a grade of "incomplete" be given to a student who neglects to turn in an
assignment.
Deadlines/Late Work:
Deadlines can vary for assignments, but I always let you know when they are due! Some assignments
will have firm due dates, meaning you cannot turn them in late. In this case, if it isn’t turned in on time
you receive a 0 for the assignment. Some assignments are not as time sensitive, so I will accept late
work with a point/grade deduction for lateness. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE TOLD WHICH ASSIGNMENTS
HAVE FIRM OR FLEXIBLE DEADLINES. It is your RESPONSIBILITY to pay attention to deadlines and
write them down if you have a hard time remembering due dates!
Class Website:
Students are expected to check the CLASS’S SCHOOLOGY PAGE every day for important
announcements, reminders, and assignments. web site: https://www.schoology.com/home.php
Cheating
Cheating is defined as talking during testing, copying another student’s work, letting someone copy
your work, or plagiarizing. There will be absolutely no tolerance for cheating. Student’s found cheating,
whether you are the cheater or the cheatee, will receive a zero on the assignment and other possible
consequences.
Grading:
Your class grade will consist of research projects, class participation, assignments, homework, and
tests/quizzes. Point values for each may vary, but will be expressed at the time each is assigned.
Scale:
A
I
X
90-100% B 80-89%
C 70-79% D
60-69%
F
59 and below
Incomplete; given only when a student is unable to complete a segment of the
course because of circumstances beyond the student’s control. A grade of
incomplete may be given only when approved in writing by the department chair
or school dean.
Conditional, with no grade points per credit; given only when the student is at
fault in failing to complete a minor segment of a course, but in the judgment of
the instructor does not need to repeat the course. It must be made up within the
next semester in residence or the grade becomes a failure (F). A (X) grade is
computed into the grade point average as a (F) grade.

Students will be required to keep accurate records including notes, assignments, and tests. Class binders will
be graded at the end of each week on organization, cleanliness, and content.
Supplies Needed:
1. 2 inch 3-ring binder with at least 3 dividers
