Course Syllabus and Requirements

Welcome to your United States History and Government class for the 2014-2015 school year! This is a required course for all New York State students for graduation. I hope you are ready for a fun and exciting learning experience. Together we will explore the history of the

United States from its origins and growth through times of peace, conflict, and prosperity. The goal is to create awareness of how these events shaped the country in which we live today. I look forward to working with you and hope that we can enjoy a very successful school year. The course concludes with the New York State Regents Exam in United States History and

Government, which is comprised, of fifty multiple-choice questions, one thematic essay and one document based question (DBQ).

In order to be successful, you ill need the following materials:

● A three-ring binder, loose-leaf notebook paper, pen, or pencil.

Grading

Your grade will consist of exams, projects, homework, and class participation.

Each test is worth between 50-100 points. The format will be similar to the Regents Exam; multiple choice and essays. Tests are announced at least two days in advance.

All homework assignments should be turned in on their DUE DATE. Late homework will not be accepted and will result in a grade of zero. You will always have more than one day to complete your homework assignments.

You are responsible for all class work and/or homework missed if you are absent. If a test is missed, a make-up exam will be taken at the scheduled time; not during class . Assignments will be posted on my echalk page. It is important for you to check the site frequently.

Grades are calculated based on a total points system. Homework, tests, and projects are assigned a point value. Final grades are calculated by dividing the amount of points received by the total possible points.

Academic Dishonesty:

Copying assignments and looking at someone else’s exam are forms of cheating. Plagiarism is when you submit work that is not your own without citing references. Anyone engaged in cheating or plagiarism will receive a grade of zero for that assignment or exam and face disciplinary action according to school policy.

Extra help is available before and after school by appointment.

I am looking forward to an exciting, productive, and successful year for us all.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding these policies or any other matter.
