Name: ______________________________________ Class: ______________________ Grade 6 Year Long Independent Reading Requirements: Students will be required to read 12 books they have not read before from a variety of genres. They will be expected to complete an assignment each month in order to show comprehension. The students will also need to record the books they have read on a reading log. Please note that parents will be asked to sign the log when the student has completed that month’s reading requirement. At the end of the school year, the log will be given to the student’s seventh grade teacher. Students will begin the independent reading for the next school year in June with a novel of their choice. The novel must be at an appropriate reading level for the student. In September, students will be expected to have read Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, two novels of their choice, and to have completed the assigned assessments. This will be checked during the first week of school. We can also learn about why they act the way they do. The way we decide about a person’s character in a story is basically the same as it is in real life.
