Council has developed a draft Essendon Junction Structure Plan and is calling for
community feedback.
Essendon Junction is a nominated neighbourhood activity centre. This means it will continue
to grow and accommodate more people and more homes. Council’s role is to develop a
long-term plan, called a structure plan, for the centre which will guide any changes and
ensure that:

growth is managed appropriately

MAJOR DEVELOPMENTS
Essendon Airport Auto Centre | Stage 3
In the northern precinct of the Essendon Airport site, the AutoCentre covers approximately
10 hectares. It is proposed to provide car dealerships and associated car storage, service
centre, food premises and car parking, as identified in the Essendon Airport Master Plan
2013.
Stage 3 of the AutoCentre required approval for the removal of Natural Temperate
Grassland of the Victorian Volcanic Plain. The Department of Environment has granted
approval to the proposal in accordance with the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity
Conservation Act 1999. Infrastructure works have now commenced on the site and are
expected to take six months.

LONG TERM PLANNING
Nominate a significant tree
Council will again be reviewing its’ Significant Tree Register, which helps protect significant
trees in the local area, to ensure it stays up to date.
The cut-off date for nominations this year is 30 June 2015. An independent review of both
the existing register and newly nominated trees will then take place. Any new additions to
the register would then be implemented through a planning scheme amendment which
seeks to apply a planning control known as an Environmental Significance Overlay
(Schedule 2) to trees identified as being significant.
Housing Strategy Update
Consultation on the draft Housing Issues and Opportunities Paper closes today Friday, 5
June.
A report will be put to Council in July summarising the feedback received, as well as
outlining the next steps.
Feedback will be used to help inform the development of the new Moonee Valley Housing
Strategy.
HERITAGE
Thematic Places Heritage Overlays (C142)
Council has recently received approval for Moonee Valley Planning Scheme Amendment
C142.
