Market Report for Week of July 29, 2015 8200 Berry Ave, Suite 140 | Sacramento | CA | 95828 | WWW.TRINITYFRESH.COM | (916) 714-7368 ICEBERG: PLEASE READ, WE HAVE POTENTIAL UPCOMING SHORTS AND QUALITY ISSUES For the last three weeks of July we had extremely warm weather both during the day and especially at night. What this did was push Lettuce acreage forward and cause an oversupply starting the first week of August. Currently we are feeling the effect of those acres ahead of schedule creating a gap in supplies. On top of the gap, we are also seeing some quality issues that are creating lost pounds and cartons per acre making supplies even lighter. Those issues are tip burn, mildew and seeders. When you lose pounds and yields it takes more acres to make up. Low carton and pound yields with an increase in demand from school business equals higher markets. Forecasted markets will be in the low twenties for at least the near future. Please make sure to get your orders in early so we can cover regular business. BROCCOLI Supplies are improving but there is still lighter than normal volume in California this week. There is a wide range in quality and pricing in both Santa Maria and Salinas Valleys. Broccoli volume in Central Mexico is steady. CAULIFLOWER Quality is good. Supplies are above normal this week. CELERY Celery supplies are light in Salinas and Santa Maria this week due to bug and disease pressure keeping yields low. Prices are trending upward. Michigan is seeing normal production. CILANTRO Cilantro quality and supply is a struggle industry wide. All shippers are seeing issues with yellowing and decay. Currently all of our cilantro is out of the U.S. Lighter supplies have raised FOB prices. GREEN ONIONS The market is still seeing decent movement and steady pricing mostly due to pre-committed contracts. Supplies from Mexico are somewhat steady this week, but could see reduced volume next few weeks due to high temps the month of August.
