Expectations and Guidelines for all Spanish Classes 1) Bring materials daily Students are expected to come to class prepared. Students will need a 1” white notebook, dividers, Spanish/English dictionary, and of course, notebook paper and a pen/pencil. (Pen must be blue or black ink. Other colors such as pink, neon green… will not be allowed.) Students may leave their notebook and dictionary on my classroom bookshelf. 2) Daily attendance Students are expected to be in class daily, and on time. If students are absent for any reason, they will need to sign my book, where they will list the reason for their absence. If they are tardy, they must go to the office for a tardy slip. 3) Lesson plans Students will be given a lesson plan weekly, and a lesson plan will be posted on the bulletin board as well; therefore, they will know when I will be taking a grade. All other work done in class will count towards a daily participation grade. Students will also be expected to participate orally, as this is a foreign language class. 4) Make-up work Per student handbook: Students shall be given one day equal to each absence for allotted make-up time. A student who does not make up assigned work within the time allotted will receive a grade of zero for the assignment. Also, if a student anticipates an absence due to an extracurricular field trip, that work must be turned in the day the student returns, per handbook guidelines. 5) Testing Policies Students are expected to study/memorize vocabulary lists. There will be a vocabulary test almost every week. For all other tests, including exams, I will allow students to use a dictionary, class textbook, and class notes. (When I travel to a Spanish-speaking country, I always take my dictionary. We will also work on dictionary skills, so they will need to apply that knowledge as well.) Since students will be allowed to use these resources, THERE WILL BE A NO CHEATING POLICY ENFORCED. 6) Cheating Policy A zero cheating policy will be enforced. Per student handbook: If a student is caught cheating, I will collect the student’s work, and immediately issue a zero. Student will then need to make up said assignment during tutorials. 7) Grading Policy Per student handbook: Six weeks grades will be calculated with 60% comprised of major grades and 40% daily grades. Major grades may include, but are not limited to, tests, projects, writing assignments, etc. Daily grades may include, but are not limited to, class assignments, homework, class participation/oral participation, quizzes, etc. 8) Bathroom Passes Bathroom passes will not be given this year. Therefore, students will need to take care of business between classes. It is our goal to keep all students out of the hallway and in the classroom during the instructional period. 9) Campus Policies Students are expected to follow all school district/campus rules, as well as my classroom rules. My classroom rules are simple and basic, and are as follows: a) Be on time. b) Respect others. c) No gum allowed. d) Follow campus rules. 10) Non-Negotiable: a)Gum will not be tolerated! Students will be issued a formal warning at the beginning of the year. After that, if a student is caught chewing gum in my classroom, there will be a formal write-up. b) Food and drinks (except bottled water) are not allowed in the classroom (unless under my controlled environment). c) Cameras and cell phones are not allowed either. I am authorized to pick up these items as soon as I see/hear them, and I will! Students are to take steps to make sure they don’t, in any way, access their phone.
