Course Overview:
English 12 provides students with the tools and guidance they need to read, comprehend, analyze,
and synthesize major works of World Literature. The purpose of World Literature studies is to
promote understanding of the roots of our own culture through comparative study. Students will
study the formation of culture, beliefs, and values in other civilizations through philosophical,
religious, and mythological systems of thought. The hero’s journey, a pervasive world-wide
