Westcoast Livestock reports that agents yarded a total of 1278 cattle at Muchea which included 141 calves sold by appraisal. Numbers remained similar to last week however quality was improved with the highlight being several lines of quality grain assisted yearlings. Local Trade weight steers sold between 190c and 247c to be mostly dearer, with heavy weight grain assisted steers averaging 227c, up 6c/kg. Trade heifer sales were close to firm, with medium weight drafts averaging 220c/kg. Medium and heavy feeder steers continue to be highly sought after selling from 186c to 227c, up 6-8c/kg. Prices for slaughter cows increased yet again. Better heavy cows made from 170c to 184c, to average 177c/kg, up 5c/kg. Medium cows sold between 130c and 175c, with light cows up strongly, selling between 120c to 178c/kg. Heavy slaughter bull prices improved further to average close to 150c, with most sales from 145c to 165c/kg.
