Best calves as always met a premium with the best heifers also wanted. Friesians (19): A very smart British blue looking Friesian from G M Lambert topped at £158. A smart run of British Friesians from J Millard sold between £38 and £78, plenty of plain third quality calves £5-£7. Native Breeds (22): Two very smart Hereford bulls made £188 and £165 for K D Sheridan. Angus bulls generally of medium and third quality top £123 for D Wheeler, £102 and £110 for R L & A R Hawker. Smaller bulls £50-£75. Angus heifers topped at £69-£73 for R L & A R Hawker, best on offer £65-£70+, smaller sorts £28-£30. Charolais (6): Only medium bulls on offer today selling between £100 and £130. Simmental (22): Good entry, some first quality bulls from Tortworth Estate, August born sold at £256, £240 and £236. Medium bulls traded at £125 - £150, plainer types £80-£110. Strong heifers again from Tortworth Estates sold to a top of £174 and £154. Best young heifers from B Gough & Sons to £90 and £119, smaller plainer heifers £44-£52. Limousin/Blonde (29): Plenty on offer from this breed today saw best Limousin bulls from R W Howells top at £235. £170 for a good sort from R J & BJ Kingston. Medium bulls traded well today £125 - £155, blonde bull calves reached £150 for J M & P J Evans smaller blonde bulls £65-£100. Limousin heifers topped at £90 for J W & S Cook, £80 for D Meredith, medium Blonde heifers on offer £45-£50. British Blue (7): Top bull from Geoff Lambert £232, £166 for R J D Taylor. Blue heifers topped at £146 for E G & M Price, £116 and £115 from R J Taylor. Weaned Calves: Friesian (8): Mainly Holstein types of 2-3 months on offer traded at £21-£32. Hereford (11): April/May born bulls from A E Gray made £240 per head. A super bunch also of 8 heifers April/June sold very well at £208 for A E Gray. Simmental (8): A good bull from Stroud Green Farm (June) made £270. Younger heifers (July/Aug) made £90 per head. Limousin (6): A smart set of calves from A R Cozens saw a Limousin bull (June) at £230 and 5 heifers (June/July born) at £148. British Blue (1): A single heifer from A E Gray (August) made £152. Still the export buyers unable to buy and nationally supply is still out stripping demand. The best medium weight lambs were the best trade selling between 77 – 82p/kg topping at 83.5p/kg for 39.5kg from Mr H King. Generally the light & handyweights were harder to sell with the heavy weights topping at £44.80 for 47kg from M/s R Smith & Son. The stronger store lambs traded between £27 - £30, with the medium longer keep lambs £22 - £26. A few small sorts traded generally between £18 £20. Suffolk Breeding rams sold to £175 from Miss P Robinson. 10.30 am – Auctioneer: Ben Baggott A good entry of pigs forward for our first sale back after the events of the summer. Still very little, if any export market which made trade somewhat easier. Best fat sows traded generally between £40-£46 topping at £48 for regular Vendor Oakdean Partnership with boar pigs to £42 from D Gibbs, Dauntsey. Lesser quality sows and boars between £10 to £20. Some very nice white porkers from Mr Gibbs sold to £50, with others from the same home at £42. A large number of black and saddle back cross pigs were harder to sell. A good entry of store pigs sold to a mixed trade topping at £18 for A J Park and £17 for E C Saunders. A total of 14 vendors supported the market showing the need for a live pig auction.
