Horticulture Department
Announces Spring Plant
Sale
The Horticulture and Agriculture
department’s annual Spring Plant Sale is
now in full swing. The students have been
working very hard since January to offer the
community and school a wide variety of
quality plants at reasonable prices. Some of
the plants that are offered for sale include
geraniums, flowering annuals, hanging
baskets, herbs and summer vegetable
plants. The greenhouse hours are from
8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day throughout
the spring. Extended hours will be offered as
well but call the school @ 337-6021 and ask
for Ms. Strole for more information. So come
visit the BGHS greenhouse and see what’s
blooming!
FCCLA Champions
Congratulations to our FCCLA state
winners! Heather Galway and Morgan Lyle
competed in the Sports Nutrition category
and won a gold medal and the trophy.
Autumn Brown, Jenna Faulkner and
Makayla Prevette competed in the Chapter
Service Project Portfolio category and won
the silver medal and second place.
Therefore, both groups are invited to
compete in the national FCCLA level in San
Antonio, Texas in July. Good luck!
FFA Report
The Buffalo Gap FFA Chapter has had a
very successful 2014 thus far, and we have
many more activities and events planned for
the rest of the year. Our annual Food For
America event took place on Tuesday, April 8th,
with approximately one thousand local children
attending to learn about how local farms
operate, see different farm animals and
machinery, and become more familiar with
where their food originates.
The annual Market Animal Show and
Sale will take place Wednesday, May 7th, and
Thursday, May 8th, with 42 Buffalo Gap FFA
members participating. Virginia State FFA
Convention will take place the week of June
23rd. Several teams from Buffalo Gap FFA will
be participating in many different CDEs (Career
Development Events) including Ag Mechanics,
Horse Hippology, Livestock Judging, Dairy
Judging, Ag Sales, Ag Issues, and Dairy
Foods.
Did you know…
June is National Iced Tea Month.
July is National Ice Cream Month.
August is National Water Quality Month.
