Salaried Position Description Job Title: Instrumentation Specialist Department: Engineering – Optimization Team Location: Port Mellon, B.C. Salary: $120,000 I. GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY The Instrumentation Specialist directs, manages and evaluates instrumentation and control systems of pulp and paper mill. Responsible for mill improvement, optimization programs preparation and execution. Design and implement improvement projects from point of view of Safety, Quality and Environment. II. MAIN DUTIES Direct the efficient operation of the instrumentation and control systems at pulp and paper mill Maintain liaison and communication with other process specialists, and production, operation, maintenance departments to develop strategies for debottlenecking system and drive mill to world class standard Evaluate the specifications of all the instruments, evaluate and monitor all relevant parameters potentially affecting performance Conduct engineering analysis and studies, to optimize and improve the efficiency of electrical, instrumentation and control system, and to achieve target production and budget Identify, study and recommend new technologies and breakthrough means to improve performance of instrumentation and control system and reduce cost of operation Lead and involve in installation, calibration, testing, troubleshooting and maintenance of protective relays, computers, automation systems, control systems on digester, power boiler, recovery boiler, fiber line, recausticizer at pulp and paper mill Inspect and test instruments and systems to diagnose faults and problems using pneumatic, electrical and electronic devices, and other measuring instruments, to solve operational issues and reduce downtime of the system Salaried Position Description Involve in electrical, instrumentation and controls engineering projects during plant shutdown, upgrading and expansion, and ensure project costs are within budget Execute DCS engineering, implement fail safe PLC and related system to protect plant equipment and minimize downtime Assist in ensuring required testing, certificates and all regulatory aspects of the electrical and instrumentation system are met Support and lead maintenance activities related to electrical and instrumentation system, ensure maintenance work is organized and planned in the department by developing and implementing policies, standards and procedures Support production, operation and maintenance teams in process control Other relevant duties as assigned III. QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will have: Relevant bachelor degree in engineering including process instrumentation, electrical or mechanical engineering Minimum 20 years of combined experience of managing and operating electrical, instrumentation and control system, preferably at pulp and paper mill Proven track record of improving efficiency and performance of automation system of plant Knowledge of technical operations, maintenance manuals, procedures and schematics Familiar with equipment, instruments and automation systems of pulp and paper mill Experience in project planning and management Ability to work sagely in an industrial setting and participate in all company safety programs Moderate to fluent English proficiency Salaried Position Description Additional qualifications that would ensure success in the position include: Good analytical skills, able to gather and analyze data, identify goals, explore and select solutions, implement and evaluate results Strong time management skills and ability to handle multiple priorities at once Ability to communicate effectively and establish effective working relationships Ability to lead team and provide guidance to employees from different backgrounds and levels of knowledge Self-motivated and results oriented, direct behavior to emphasize the achievement of organization goals and core values Flexibility to work overtime when required V.
