Assistant Director of the Oxy Annual Fund Institutional Advancement Summary As part of the College’s Alumni Engagement team, this position will report to the Director of the Oxy Annual Fund and will work closely with the entire Alumni Engagement team on annual giving programming. In addition to routine Annual Fund responsibilities, this position will coordinate fundraising efforts around two significant alumni audiences – Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) and rising philanthropists. This position will also manage all current student philanthropy education strategies. Responsibilities include planning and executing annual fundraising campaigns for each of these programs and providing support to the volunteer leadership and committees of these groups. This position is responsible for goal-setting, assisting with the development of direct mail and Telefund initiatives, volunteer recruitment, training, and support, along with related activities of identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for donors in these groups. Each campaign will have an emphasis on personal solicitations for outright gifts at the leadership gifts level and above. Essential Functions Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) (approx. 35%) Oversee, plan, supervise and direct GOLD fundraising outreach campaign efforts and activities. Assist chairs with personal solicitation letter and email reminder messaging as appropriate. Plan and implement recognition of volunteer efforts as appropriate. Identify, recruit and manage volunteers, set campaign strategies for each class, hold conference calls, travel to recruit leadership, and provide training to volunteers as needed. Solicit GOLD giving society level gifts from volunteers and other members of GOLD by phone and in person, and record results in the database to assure proper tracking of results. Prepare and distribute reports on a regular basis to update volunteers and staff on results of fundraising activities. Rising philanthropists (approx.. 30%) Cultivate, solicit and steward alumni who have an inclination or ability to support the college with large gifts over time. Personally ask for gifts, particularly at the leadership level. Work collaboratively with a broad range of Alumni Engagement and Major Gifts staff to ensure effective partnership in activities for maximum outcomes both short and longterm. Current Student Philanthropy Education (15%) Manages the Senior Class Gift Campaign, including recruiting and training committee members; develops a strategy for committee to solicit all members of the senior class through phone calls, emails and face-to-face encounters; conducts meetings throughout the fall and spring semester to manage volunteers and track progress; motivates seniors to achieve dollar and participation goals; and works with Assistant Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement on events that highlight the importance of the Senior Class Gift. In partnership with the Assistant Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement, serves as the liaison to the Student Philanthropy Club. This position oversees the management of a planning committee which organizes events, secures guest speakers, creates printed materials, coordinates with various departments on campus, and conducts post-event analysis. Develop innovative strategies for engaging all students in the story and act of philanthropy at Occidental College. Work should include the development and implementation of a four-year education strategy.
