World Religions Assignment How does a better understanding of other religions help us become more open and accepting of others? Task In your assigned groups you will create a lesson on the world religion that your group is assigned. Part A: Research (/45 marks) Use websites and books for your research. Your research must contain the following information. Foundations- the origin of the religion, brief history/timeline of major events, the founder, locations of practice, country of origin, number of followers, leaders, architecture of buildings of worship and different sects within the religion. Values/Teachings- name and describe the rules, laws, practices, philosophy, morals, and ethics that guide members of that religion and influence how they are to live their lives. Beliefs- research how the religion understands the purpose in life, death, afterlife, salvation, destiny, religious mystery and human and worldly creation. Practices- explain how members practice marriage, funeral, and dietary and clothing customs. Also describe special rituals, worship routines, sacred objects, prayer and prayer practices and traditions important to that religion. Sacred Scripture- provide information on the origin, writers/messengers, place of writings along with the book(s) titles and purposes of the writings. Symbols- Show at least 3 main images or visual signs that identify the religion and reasons for their incorporations. Vocabulary- provide at least 5 words that are unique to the religion along with their meaning and importance. Festivals and celebrations – describe and explain at least 3 major rituals that the religion practices. Part B: Visual display of information/presentation and handout (/25marks) The research from part A of the assignment must be displayed visually through use of powerpoint, poster or brochure. Please us color and display the images and text in a visually appealing manner. (Make sure you reference everything) Your group will present to the class. Your group is also responsible for creating a handout for your classmates which summarizes the important information. Part C: Reflection (/10 marks) Once all the groups have presented their information a reflection will be written and handed in answering the following questions.
