TEACHER LEADERSHIP GROWTH PROJECT Activity 1 – Self-assessment Download the Teacher Leadership Self-assessment. Rate yourself on each criterion. Once you have completed the self-assessment, fill out the Teacher Leadership Self-assessment report. Activity 2 – Teacher Leadership Growth Plan Select one of the areas that you would like to strengthen. This will be the focus of your Teacher Leadership Growth Plan. Your plan should include the following components: Focus – identify the substandard you selected as your focus Rationale – Why did you choose this specific sub-standard? Goal – What is the overall purpose of your plan? Objectives – State your objectives in specific term (what you will do and accomplish. Make sure your objectives are measureable and achievable. Action Plan – Describe the steps you plan to take to accomplish the goal(s) and objectives of your growth plan. Timeline – Develop a timeline for completing each step in your plan. Assessment Products - Indicate a minimum of three assessment products (documentation) that will assess the success of your plan, e.g., a policy change; updated guidelines; scheduled workshops/presentations, etc. Activity 3 – Research Paper/Literature Review You are to research all relevant materials/resources related to the area of the sub-standard you selected. This research is important because its purpose is to increase your knowledge in the content area related to your selected focus. Use books, journal articles, interviews, focus groups, professional learning communities, online resources, and other media approved by the course instructor. Organize and summarize all of the information you have gathered on your selected topic into a paper. This paper should read like an academic research paper or literature review. Your paper should be 10-12 pages and must be prepared according to APA standards. It should include six or more scholarly references. Activity 4 – Peer Review Your instructor will assign you a peer reviewer. You will review his/her Teacher Leadership Growth Project (self-assessment, growth plan, and research paper). Using the TLGP Peer Review form, provide a constructive critique of his/her work. Identify the strengths of the project, as well as the areas for improvement. Include suggestions for “next steps” for your peer. Activity 5 – Self-reflection Write a 1-2 page reflection addressing the following questions. In what ways has your view of Teacher Leadership changed as a result of your participation in this course? In what ways have you developed as a Teacher Leader as a result of your participation in this course? If you were able to enact you Teacher Leadership Growth Plan during this course, reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of the plan, as well as the reactions of your coworkers. Also comment on where you will go next with the plan. If you were unable to enact your Teacher Leadership Growth Plan during this course, describe your plan for enacting the plan and presentation including conversations you’ve had with administrators or colleagues about the plan. Also comment on your long-term goals for this project. What revisions did you (or will you) make prior to presenting your Teacher Leadership Growth Plan to an authentic audience of peers or administrators? Describe the changes in detail and describe what necessitated the changes. What are your future plans for “Sustaining Teacher Leadership?” Describe your plans for local, state, and/or national leadership efforts in which you plan to engage.
