Stayton Friends of the Library MEETING Oct. 19, 2015 President Pam Pugsley called the meeting to order at 11:04. Also present were: Shane Fritz, Vi Cotter, Dick Lewis, Carol Tabor, Natalie Sullivan, Mary Schacher, Betty Batche, Darlene Manning, Casle Portner, Stephanie Rubel, Sara Trott, and later Katinka Bryk. Shane read the Minutes of the September meeting, which were approved as read. Darlene presented the Treasurer’s Report for September [see attached]. Darlene did not give a Membership Report, but will next month. Carol T. gave the Bookstore Report [see attached]. Librarian’s Report: Stephanie said that CCRLS is getting bids for the RFID system. Katinka said that it may all be ready by late June or July. Teen/Tween Programming: Mariah is doing Maker Space once a month on the 4th Wednesday. This month they will convert Altoid tins into flashlights. Last month they made “squishy circuits”. She is also doing Teen Read Week. Children’s Programming: Casle said that they are planning the Sleepover. Miss Ellie is being eased into reading at Story Time, and learning songs for the Motion Mondays and Thumpin’ Thursdays so as to continue the programs if Casle is gone or sick. If members want to order books as Christmas presents, they need to get info to her by Nov. 15th. They will get a 40% discount. Shane was asked to send out a notice to FOL members. Casle said that the Brews, Bites & Books event was very nice. Stephanie received feedback that people would like it to be more often. Adult Programming: Stephanie said that this week there will be Trivia Night on Tuesday and Crazy Eights author tour on Thursday. Stephanie received the Square for electronic swiping and it is really easy to use, and can be used for book sales that night. Because Jane Kirkpatrick broke her foot, Philip Margolin stepped forward to fill her slot. November is National Writing Month. Stephanie would like to set up Write-Ins once a week for 4-hour stints when people can bring their laptops. Nov. 12th Jean Moule will talk about raising children in a multicultural setting. OLD BUSINESS Carol Tabor talked about the Used Book Sale October 8-10. We took in $3,327, which was down from last year, perhaps due to a reduced number of nice paperbacks, as Pam sorts them out for the book store. There was a great Thursday night of $1300. The people who took away the leftover books on Saturday were taking the romances to a women’s shelter, and some books to a rehab center. Updating the scrapbooks of FOL: Stephanie received some old photos by email but hasn’t had time to do additional work. 1 Darlene received the FOL debit card but doesn’t know where it is at the moment. It will be kept at the library once she finds it. Shane moved that we reimburse Mary the $54.78 for the cheeses, etc. that she served at the Brews, Bites & Books event, with Carol Tabor’s blessing. The motion was seconded and it carried. NEW BUSINESS Pam read a letter that was received from Mark Pearson regarding the FOL website, which he owns and administers for $10 a month. He wants us to spend $150 to move to Wordpress which has malware protection. Sara Trott said that she could set up a different website using Weebly, which costs less and could be started all new to promote FOL. Carol T recommended that we give up the old website, which was just for the Used Book Store. Sara Trott already administers the middle school and elementary school Parent-Teacher Club website. Casle moved that we have Sara set up a new website for Stayton FOL.org. The motioned was seconded and it carried. Pam will notify Mark that we are going with a new system and setting up a new website. Sara will begin setting up the site this afternoon. She will set it up so that people can join Friends of the Library online and pay online. Next FOL meeting November 16 Respectfully submitted, Shane Fritz, FOL secretary 2
