NOTES ON A MEETING OF IMAGE HELD ON THURSDAY 16 July 2015 Attending: Graham Frank-Keyes (Chair), Val Shields, Emlyn Jones, Margaret Heaton, Michael Alsworth, Sue Alsworth, Barbara Watson (Secretary) The Chairperson welcomed Michael and Sue Alsworth to the meeting and to the group. ACTION 1. APOLOGIES Apologies had been received from Vera and Haydn Jones, Sue Cleaver, Phil Edwards, Andrew Bailey, Marian Williams. 2. MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING Minutes of the last meeting were accepted as a true record. 3. MATTERS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES AND UPDATES Matters Arising – Banner – Andrew has put the banner up. Graham had written to Andrew asking him formally to keep the VIP in mind regarding any developments in the area, and to promote that with Wrexham Borough as and when necessary. Andrew had responded positively and a copy of the letter is attached to these minutes. Tidy-Up Sunday July – no-one had attended the tidy-up day, so Barbara and husband had tidied around the Marford junction and cleared the Marford playground of rubbish, tins, etc. Next Tidy-Up Sunday would be Sunday 2 August – PLEASE LET BARBARA KNOW IF YOU CAN ATTEND. Barbara made the point that without more support it was impossible to keep on top of the situation – it needed a lot of people to commit to make it effective. With the Village Festival coming up it was important to get the village looking tidy as people from outside the village would be attending. Trees – two trees appear to be dead or dying (one at the end of Burton Rise and one opposite the Marford Community Centre). The holly tree opposite the community centre is also not looking very healthy. The other tree opposite the community centre was deliberately broken in half and the Council have removed the broken piece. The grant application (which it was agreed should be for more trees) will include tree guards this time, plus watering pipes for each tree. The Council have agreed to replace the three trees we have lost. [Update – Barbara saw one of the near neighbours watering the trees outside the community centre on Saturday] Watering trees/flower bed/tubs. Following discussion, agreed that Image should contact the Community Council and ask for their financial help in getting a bowser to attend all the trees/tubs/flower bed. Barbara would send a letter to the community council. Cards – Graham had been given £45 by the newsagent for card sales. He had delivered 5 more packs to them. Agreed Barbara would deliver a further five packs, and would also give Graham 5 packs to replace the ones he had given to the newsagent. Barbara would also check with Sarah at Serendipity to see if she needed more cards. 4. FINANCES No financial update as Sue is away, beyond the fact of the £45 from the newsagent for cards. Graham will hold that until Sue gets back. ALL BW BW 5. VILLAGE FESTIVAL There has currently been no further Festival meeting but it is assumed one will be held in the next two or three weeks. Barbara is getting on with photo quiz and Margaret is doing the ‘marketing’ display. Agreed that the August meeting would be an organising meeting for the Festival and to hold it (20 August) at Margaret’s house so that she did not have to bring the marketing display to the Trust. Raffle tickets for the Festival were handed out : o 05726/05731 Barbara o 05736/05741 Sue o 05756/05761 Mike and Sue o 05746/05751 Emlyn o 05701/05706/05711/05716/05721 Margaret o 05766/05771 Graham 6. SHOPKEEPERS GROUP No update. Barbara will check with Sarah in the next week or so. 7. FOUNTAIN Although Margaret had spoken to Bell Masonry, it appears that there is not a lot of chance of getting the grouting on the fountain completed any time soon. Difficulties in obtaining the right colour grout and any different colour would ruin the effect. Margaret is not sure that it needs to be done as the tiles are so tightly packed anyway. The damage could not be repaired with grout as that would not be acceptable. Margaret felt it would be inappropriate to place flowers at the fountain as the fountain is architecturally distinctive in its own right and after some considerable discussion it was agreed that no flowers should be placed there. 8. ANY OTHER BUSINESS Val reported that the Library Garden Party had been very successful and 90% of the income had been profit with 10% being used as costs for the event. 9. DATE OF NEXT MEETING The next meeting would take place on Thursday 20 August, 7.30 pm at Margaret’s house (Tan Llan, Pant Lane, Gresford LL12 8EY). PLEASE NOTE – Please let Barbara know if you are able to attend the tidy-up Sunday on 2nd August. Please let Barbara have your apologies if you are unable to attend the meeting on 20 August (07740941263 or barbingledene@gmail.com ). BW
