Tribute to Ms. Barbara By Angela Wing-Allen Always willing to lend a hand, Barbara Richardson truly embodies what it means to be a good neighbor. At 77 years of age, Ms. Barbara, as affectionately known, gladly shares her vast energy, many talents and big heart with those who need "a hand up". Holy Ground Shelter proudly nominates Barbara Richardson for the Humana Good Neighbor Award. Weekly, she puts in 30 plus volunteer hours at Holy Ground, which shelters and mentors pregnant and parenting young mothers and their children. Barbara was instrumental at its inception, and has been Board Treasurer since 2009. As well as her budgeting and Board activities, she has done everything from mentoring our young moms to taking clients to appointments, picking up donations, fundraising, and proofreading. Mother of six, grandmother of 13, great grandmother to 3 and trained as an LPN, Miss Barbara is truly a compassionate "Jackie of all trades". We value her sage wisdom and bright smile! In addition to her service work at Holy Ground, Barbara serves on the New Membership Committee for Homeless and Housing Alliance of Palm Beach County and as long-term member of Pax Christi, (an International Peace Organization). She is the kind, helpful and hardworking neighbor, we all would hope to have!
