How do we t each kids to budget their cash? Let’s see… Bill and Jim got their allowance every Saturday. By
Wednesday Bill was broke. Before Dad learned Love and Logic, he’d give Bill an advance, followed by a mighty lecture about the fact that money does not grow on trees. Are you guessing that Bill always needed an advance? You bet! With some love and Logic, Dad took a different tact. The next time Bill begged for some bills, Dad empathized,
“Oh, that’s got to be upsetting. I provide allowance on Saturdays. You will have to wait.” Bill was mad! His older brother, Jim, want ed to help. “Bill,” he said, “I’ll hire you to do some of my chores.” This arrangement worked great until Bill decided that budgeting was much easier than doing Jim’s chores. At what age is it best for kids to learn that it’s unwise to waste cash? When they are ten years old…or twenty?
Attendance: Success at school starts with good attendance and always being on time! Studies show that students who miss 10% or more of the school year, or about 18 days of school, suffer academically. Not only does chronic absenteeism and tardiness hurt individual students but it also effects the classroom environment by slowing or stopping the pace of instruction. Please make every effort to have your child at school and on time, and if an absence is unavoidable, please call the Y.E.S. office.
