Slp mtg 11/13
Some have case load up to 75
We will not get more fte so we will have to change schedules
Our district has too high % of Special Ed and its increasing
We may be over qualifying
We are not staffing kids out
A lot of transfers
We are using Dec 1 count to determine reallocation
Artic pics -anyone who does not have it will get it. You'll get a code, enter it
into your iTunes account and you'll get it
If you're not coming in and it's after 6:00, email Lynea to notify of your absence. Same if you have to go
home sick. Sub Finder doesn't work that day
Carol -iep review team
IEP goes to Martha first, she checks its for completion
Laurie checks it and gives it back to Marta
It goes to each team for review according to services provided
Looking for: eval report (do NOT put the severity rating scale in the eval report), strengths and
weaknesses identified and consistent, goals derived from strengths and weaknesses, show clearly how
child meets criteria
Observations required for all but speech and language
Team discusses those that are questionable
Meeting summary needs to include the explanation of the label - can put the severity rating score in
here. Document that parents agreed with the discussion. Include notes on what parents say. Restate the
reasoning for how they meet criteria, don't just count on having it in the eval report
Use severity rating scales to increase consistency among slps
We are primary services providers. We should be listed as a secondary disability label unless its part of
multiple. You need the eligibility checklist for every service you consider. Primary service provider for a
secondary disability
If the child has a SLD label and you mark oral expression and listening comp, you don't necessarily
provide s/l services.
What direct explicit instruction does slp need to provide for student to access general curriculum? Can
spEd instructor meet their needs? You can consult on SLD w/o a SLI label but not provide direct services
Unless they meet criteria for SLI, we do not serve them. And you do the checklist
For autism and SLD:when is it appropriate for SLP to provide services and when not necessary?
IEP review team had a big influx of IEPs. Reports look good so far. They are being returned for small
things
Dec 1 count-have to finish everything before thanksgiving break - finalize everything for initials and reevals. State pulls from Enrich1. If its not finalized in Enrich, it doesn't count. Have it done by Monday at
least because people will be working over break on them
Tier a students we get 1000
Tier b we get 6000 per kid ( autism, multiple disability
You can open an AR for dec now
Biggest problem on IEPs is that primary provider in LRE is not completed. Also hours entered for services
don't add up - they show more hours of SpEd than there are hours in the day. Can't happen
Make sure to do an amendment to reflect actual hours that your preschoolers attend. 5.33 for 2 days, 8
for 3 days, 10.66 for 4 days. Do it right away if you are contacted
Send IEP to student services right away - within 2 weeks of locking it
If you're working on the same thing as the SpEd teacher, the kid should not be on your caseload
A kid who is SLD only
- comprehension of reading content at their level is good
-expressive language is intact
- for SLP to consult - maybe they don't need SLI label. You are on as a related provider
- Lynea will talk about consultation in Dec. you include it only if it is necessary for the kid to access
curriculum
- if you switch a kid to consult only it should be part of a plan to staff the child out
- in high school, needs should include expressive language for kid to receive services
Bring iPads next time because Bud Hunt is coming. Email questions in advance to Lynea
We are moving toward everyone getting an iPad mini. Each class will have a set in elementary. Let Lynea
know if you don't have access to a desktop in your school
If you have questions you'd like to have discussed, email them to Lynea. Doesn't have to be speech
language.
Lynea will research apps. If you have good ones, let Lynea know. We might also have time in Spring to
share apps
Developmental delay
Similar to preschooler with a disability
You must have multiple sources
It's an elimination disability
You have to have a score of 7th percentile on a standardized measure (standard score 70-77)
It's a delay. They will probably end up as ID or SLD
Conditions associated with delay - Down syndrome, PTSD, fragile X,
Have to have observations across settings - patterns of learning are significantly different from
expectations
SLI vs DD
- guidance is coming
- they qualify for SLI and have unrelated other concerns. Across settings.
- if language is the primary disability, label is SLI
- primary service provider is SpEd teacher for DD
-DD goes up to age 6
- CP would be a physical disability not DD
- by the time they are 8, it should be clear that they will be SLD or ID
- in order for OT to be a related service to SLP, it has to be related to the speech disability
