IMPORTANT DATES Orientation Week: February 24-27 Workshops Begin: March 10 SLI BANQUET: May 14, TSU Pavilions B&C This semester, the SLICC team welcomes two new members: Jenny Le as Presentations Coordinator and Holly Nguyen as Newsletter Coordinator/Historian. Both have already begun their duties in anticipation of a busy semester with exciting events such as the Talent Show and Awards Banquet steadily approaching. Below is a little bit of information so that you can get to know them better. Hi, my name is Jenny Le and I'm the Presentations Coordinator of SLI. I am currently a junior and a Business major with a concentration in Management and I just transferred from Orange Coast College this fall. What got me interested in SLI was the fact that this program could fit into my busy schedule, it was free, and the workshops offered sounded very interesting. I'm currently in the process of completing the Career Track and if anyone is preparing to look for an internship or career, I would highly recommend this track! This summer, I have an awesome paid internship waiting for me and it’s because of the wonderful speakers in the workshops of this track. Besides the Career Track, I’m also taking tracks which spark my interest. After completing 12 workshops, I wanted to put my leadership skills to the test and become more active at CSUF so I decided to apply to be on the SLICC team. Being on the SLICC team has been fun, busy, but best of all, a growing experience. Hi, I’m Holly. I am an International Business major in my second year. Currently I am taking the Social Justice Activism and E.M.B.R.A.C.E tracks. I am the Newsletter Coordinator / Historian, so I shall be updating my fellow participants through this newsletter about what’s going on in SLI. To accomplish this, I plan to spend time with participants in order to exchange thoughts and opinions about SLI and also to take many pictures. So beware. I shall be the skinny Asian girl with the camera flashing away. You have authorized paparazzi on your trail. The reason why I joined SLICC is because I always wondered where leaders got their start. Frida Kahlo probably would never have painted the great works of art we see today if not for encouragement from others. Gandhi did not wake up one day and suddenly decide to be a peace-loving guru. Leaders must get their inspiration from somewhere. I seek inspiration and to also inspire others to become leaders. This is universal thing, taught by all religions. -Thich Nhat Hanh CALENDAR OF EVENTS Spring Orientations February 23-27 Workshops Begin March 10 Talent Show March 25 Experiential Component Due May 1 Awards Banquet May 14 Got Talent? S L I information Such as we are made of, such we be. -Shakespeare New SLI Club Starting this Semester: We Need You! Something new is happening with the Student Leadership Institute this semester… it’s the formation of the SLI Club! You are probably asking yourself: what is the difference between the SLI Program and the SLI Club? The SLI Program is all about educating students on leadership, by way of practical and interactive workshops in a number of different certificate tracks; for example, Career Leadership and Organizational Leadership. The SLI Club is being started so that our participants can take their experience to the next level by putting their leadership skills to use as an extension of the program. The SLI Club, like any other recognized CSUF club or organization, will be able to do other types of activities, such as hosting guest faculty and community speakers, campus outreach, fundraising, field trips, and anything else its members can think of as it relates to expanding the leadership experience for our students. Sounds like something you want to get involved with? Then the timing is just right, because we are in need of 2009-2010 club officers and members like you. Initial officer positions are President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Promotions. In addition, officer candidates and club members are being asked to be part of the committee putting together the first SLI Club event: THE TALENT SHOWCASE, which will be taking place on Wednesday, March 25th at 6pm. Applications for club membership and club officers (along with position duties) can be obtained by emailing: sli@fullerton.edu.
