low cost sustainable projects using appropriate and affordable technologies that can be
managed by the community itself. WaterAid also seeks to influence the policy change
through government and other key international organizations to secure and protect the right
of poor people to safe, affordable water and sanitation services.
Overall Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to ensure that WaterAid Tanzania has the financial resources to
deliver on its Country Strategy commitment. The Senior Programme Coordinator Fundraising
and Grants Management will play an instrumental role ensuring that our fundraising strategies
and practice exceed this ambition/goal.
You will do this by working with colleagues across the organisation to ensure that challenging
fundraising targets are met, that our contractual obligations with donors are adhered to with
strong stewardship of these strategic relations, and that new donors are brought on board.
The role coordinates all types of fundraising including statutory, philanthropy, private sector
and trusts. It works directly alongside colleagues, themselves engaging with donors, to
develop compelling proposals, and provide strategic support and direction for organisational
and programme fundraising.
Key Accountabilities:












Help improve WAT team’s fundraising skills, capacities and systems. Assist all teams in
planning, writing and editing funding proposals to comply with WAT’s fundraising
guidelines and standards, paying particular attention to our accountabilities and
ensuring that applications meet donor guidelines.
Develop and improve the effectiveness of the organisation-wide oversight, monitoring
and coordination of fundraising and reporting.
Ensure that accurate and up-to-date information is maintained on all submissions,
grant-funded projects and donors in relevant databases and filing systems.
Work with the Director of Grants & Finance Management to ensure that funding
proposals comply with WAT’s developing best practice in Grants monitoring and
evaluation plans.
Regularly monitor and document grant expenditures against grant funded activities to
ensure compliance with donor regulations, specific terms and conditions of grant
awards and any array of reporting requirements
Provide support to the WATz SMT in preparing donor and grants proposals. Serve as an
institutional resource on grant compliance, participate in the review of new funding
opportunities, and provide critical feedback on WATz eligibility and risk.
Support the Director of Grants and Fundraising Management to develop and implement
a Fundraising and Grants strategy for the delivery of grants and compliance related
information among WATz’s funded projects. This will involve establishing policies and
procedures to guide on compliance of any grant regulations and requirements.
Communicate professionally and in a timely fashion with staff, partner organisations
and donors to ensure effective grant management and advancement of program
implementation.
Represent WATz at donor meetings and trainings as needed. Network with WaterAid
Tanzania teams, institutional donors, governments and Tanzanian civil society
organizations to share and learn from best practices in grants acquisition, monitoring
standards and donor communications.
Provide technical support to assess donor eligibility/allow ability of planned
expenditures and identify related compliance requirements.
Work with the Director of Strategic Support to streamline and maintain an accurate
database of grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements.

Education and aptitude:
 A bachelor’s degree in either a Business Administration with a Finance bias or a
degree in marketing coupled with a post graduate diploma in public relations or
related field to the organization.
 Specialized training in development project proposal research, and report writing
(preferred)
Job related experience and knowledge:

Four to five years experience with a proven track record of Grants management
and prior experience with fundraising campaigns, major donors, or events with any
reputed national/ international / donor agency.

Ability to perform sophisticated financial analysis based on knowledge of the principles
and practices of non-for-profit accounting, including direct responsibility managing
large restricted grants.

