Train the Trainer Course 2015 – please note: some detail may change this course has been
especially designed to provide additional information on allergic disease and anaphylaxis.
The Royal Children’s Hospital is committed to support educators and trainers in their
delivery of allergy and anaphylaxis training. We have developed a comprehensive three day
course to extend individual’s knowledge of allergy and anaphylaxis and to see how children
are diagnosed with allergy here at the hospital. Two of these days are classroom focused
and one is clinical placement. This is the first course that offers clinical observation time in
the Department alongside our excellent clinicians.
This course is not a nationally recognised training Course with the Australian Qualification
Framework. It is professional development to participants who already have certificate IV in
Training and Assessment to equip them to deliver the RCH course entitled Management and
Prevention of Allergy and Anaphylaxis which has the same content as the accredited course
22099VIC First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis. This is relevant to Schools & Children’s
Services in Victoria. To participants who do not hold a Certificate IV Training and
Assessment, this course increases their knowledge of allergy and anaphylaxis and they are
able to support others with yearly updates and briefings.

Assessment tasks and case study
Assessment - The assessment for this program is to:
Submit a report on a child with an allergic reaction that attends the Department of Allergy
and Immunology at RCH. The student needs to accompany a child through the process of
having the consultation with the Specialist, undergoing skin prick tests and food challenges
and then concluding with the Specialist’s summation of the allergy and his/her ongoing
management. The required assessment will consist of:
a) an individual risk management plan (discussion with the parents)
b) a risk management plan for the school or child care centre (discussion with
the parents)
c) a communication plan that focuses on stakeholders of the school/child care
centre
d) an emergency response plan

Attendance at 2 day workshop and one day clinical placement


The clinical placement day is organised with the Clinical Nurse Consultant and the
participant on a mutually acceptable day.
All training materials will be distributed at the commencement of the course; each
participant should bring a pen.
Parking: parking is available underground at an hourly rate, limited short term on street
parking available

There is a maximum of 15 places per session.
