December 10th, 2014 Report for Graduate Student Senator Andrew Bucci: December 10th, 2014 Date August 6 Event/Meeting DSU Council Meeting Description Chair of DSU resigned. Various proposed amendments to DSU Policies approved. August 20 DSU Council (unable to attend) Unable to attend due to out of town work function. DAGS representatives in attendance. August 22 DAGS Board Meeting Discussed orientation plans for graduate students. Sept 3 FGS Orientation Session Attended the full orientation event. Spoke briefly at end of session and distributed promotional materials. Sept 3 DAGS BBQ Attended the BBQ and distributed promotional materials to students in line. Sept 4 DAGS Pancake Breakfast Attended the event and cooked pancakes for students. Sept 8 Senate Orientation (unable to attend) Unable to attend due to scheduling conflict. Conflict only present for one other Senate meeting. Sept 10 Senate Discipline Committee Hearing Attended hearing. Information and outcome confidential. Sep 10 DSU Council Meeting Attended meeting. Various appointments to committees made; meeting lasted over 4 hours due to number of appointments. Sept 15 Senate Meeting (unable to attend) Unable to attend due to scheduling conflict; conflict no longer a factor for future meetings. Senate Secretariat notified. Other student senators informed. Sept 18 Meeting with FGS Dean(unable to attend) Unable to attend. Other DAGS representatives in attendance. Regrets of absence sent along to FGS staff. Sept 23 Faculty Council Meeting Attended meeting. Discussed Academic Integrity Modules being developed for grad students. December 10th, 2014 Sept 24 DSU Council Meeting Attended meeting. Main issue addressed was a motion to approve a statement regarding the Provincial Governments actions that left the DSU out of negotiations of a new MOU. Sept 29 DAGS Meeting Discussed Grant proposals. Discussed revision of Grants. Oct 8 DSU Council Meeting Attended meeting, various amendments on DSU policies voted on (i.e., Board of operations, procurement, council, and constitutional policies). Oct 15 DSU A&E Meeting Attended meeting. Approximately 50% of members absent. Chair of DSU Research Committee selected. Discussion on priorities and meeting scheduling discussed. Oct 15 DAGS Board Meeting Attended meeting. Grant Proposals reviewed, Council meeting date set. Oct 20 DAGS A&E Meeting Arrived at location, but no one else showed up. Meeting to be rescheduled by DAGS VP. Oct 21 Faculty Council Attended meeting. Support for academic integrity modules approved by council. Various updates provided on internal faculty reviews. Oct 22 DAGS Board Meeting Council meeting plans discussed. Request for formal letter of resignation from Director of Health Professions. Plans for bi-election discussed Oct 22 DSU Council Meeting Presentation by Students NS on various ways they are lobbying for Dal Students (issues included: accessibility, provincial government advocacy). Information provided on new university Provost Model adopted by administration. December 10th, 2014 Oct 27 SRI Meeting with Professor The Chair of the Psychology Department (Raymond Klein) requested a meeting to discuss student issues with the current SRI process. The matter is now being investigated by a Senate Learning and Teaching Committee Working Group. Oct 27 Student Senator Caucus Meeting Prior to our Senate meeting the DSU Senators and I gathered to discuss items on the senate agenda. Primary item of interest was discussions around the new provost model, being utilized by Dal. Oct 27 Senate Meeting Attended with my fellow senators. Primary items discussed were: Provost Model, new learning management system updates new diploma and certificate framework. Oct 30 Senate Discipline Hearing Meeting rescheduled for November 25th. Nov 5 DSU Council Meeting Nov 18 Senate Learning and Teaching Committee (SLTC) DSU Council Meeting (unable to attend due to conflict) Main item handled was the approval and revision of various amendments to the DSU Elections Policy. Discussions took place on Halloween issue at Brock University, and the need to possibly adopt a DSU sexism and racism policy. Primary item discussed pertained to new academic dates in the future, and the possibility of a fall reading week. DAGS representatives were in attendance in my absence Nov 19 Nov 20 FGS Dean Meeting Met with Dr. Leonard to discuss graduate student issues related to funding, scholarship access, research concerns, and structural issues. Nov 24 Senate Meeting Discussed and debated Divest Dalhousie campaign, and voted on proposal to keep status quo academic dates for next academic year. More study is being done on the possibility of a fall reading week.
