In Memoriam -- Albert Crossland Dudley
Albert Crossland Dudley died on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the
Community Hospice House at the age of 81 years.
He was born in New Haven, Connecticut on August 29, 1928, the
son of Albert George Dudley and Marion Alfreda Crossland. He was
a direct descendant of William Dudley and Jane Lutman, who
emigrated from county Surrey, England and were among the first
settlers of Guildford, Connecticut in 1639.
Mr. Dudley, a retired executive of the Colonial Gas Company of
Lowell, Massachusetts and previously, of Connecticut Natural Gas
Corp. of Hartford, Connecticut, had worked 40 years in the natural
gas utility industry following his graduation from Yale University
with a Chemical Engineering degree in 1950. He also served as a
Director of several corporations and non-profit associations and
most recently served on the Board of Governors of the Connecticut
Society of Genealogists. Among his several avocations were
philately, numismatics and genealogy. An avid genealogist since his
retirement in January, 1991, he enjoyed sharing his research with
others through speaking engagements, as a leader of a genealogy
group at the Nashua Senior Activity Center, as a facilitator with the
RISE program of Rivier College and as a researcher for the Nashua
Historical Society. In the year 2000, he published a book detailing
the descendants of one son of his immigrant ancestors and was
working on a similar book detailing the descendants of their other
son and two daughters. He was the founder and President of the
William Dudley Family Association and as honorary Director of the
Society of Middletown (Connecticut) First Settlers Descendants.
A Past Master of Lafayette Lodge No. 100, AF & AM of Hartford,
Connecticut where he served as Master in 1965, he was also a
member of Hartford Evergreen Lodge No. 88 of South Windsor,
Connecticut and Rising Sun Lodge No. 39 F & AAM of Nashua, New
Hampshire. Mr. Dudley was also a Past Patron of Corinthian
Chapter No. 92, O.E.S. of Hartford and a member of Newington
Chapter No. 115 of Newington, Connecticut and Pilgrim Chapter
No. 55 of Nashua.
Mr. Dudley was predeceased by a son. Peter Howard Dudley in
1995. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandra Yvonne
(Guetens) Dudley; three daughters, Sandra Caldwell of Norfolk,
Virginia, Deborah Tewksbury of Littleton, New Hampshire and
Denise Green of Merrimack. New Hampshire; two sons, Albert
Edward Dudley of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada and Stephen
Joseph Dudley of Mont Vernon, New Hampshire, their spouses and
children, as well as several great-grandchildren.
