HUMAN RESOURCES Social Worker Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the Director of Special Education and Pupil Services or administrator, to provide social/emotional/behavioral supports and or consultation to maximize the students' learning experience. Essential Functions Conducts assessments, testing and diagnostic evaluations of students for the purpose of identifying learning or social interaction issues, and recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to overcome issues and maximize learning. Provides individualized and group counseling for students with social/emotional/behavioral problems. Provides crisis intervention as needed. Collaborates with the family when necessary to identify additional supports. Performs case management to insure compliance with student plans, IEP services including preparing progress reports, reviews progress of treatment plans, participation as a members of a multidisciplinary team. Conducts risk assessments and Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develops Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) in collaboration with other team members. Liaison between school and families and additional community supports as needed. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents Assists students and teaching staff in implementing students' behavior management plans. Coordinates with outside agencies, organizations and institutions, including state and federal authorities as needed. Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with social work services. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete records in accordance with accreditation standards. Assists in the orientation of new teachers, and provides in-service training and guidance. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
