Newsletter ~ 18th September 2015 I would like to start this newsletter by sending our warmest congratulations to Rev Carole and her new husband Barry who got married on Saturday and we want to wish them every happiness for their future together. We are lucky enough to have been given some of Carol’s beautiful wedding flowers and these have brightened up school this week. Yesterday some of our Year 5 and 6 children attended the first meeting of the cluster book club. This is for children in Year’s 5 – 7, with pupils from MCS taking the lead. Syresham were very well represented and the children enjoyed discussing My Brother is a Superhero by David Solomans with others from most of the schools in Brackley. They also completed some craft activities which will be on display in Brackley Library soon. The next meeting is planned for Thursday 12th November at 4pm (TBC) and the book chosen is Theodore Boone (the first book of the series) by John Grisham. If anyone is interested in joining, please speak to Mrs Hughes. Today our RE visitor came into school to talk to the children as part of their learning. Imran Kotwal spent some time with each class and supported the work children have done on Islam in their RE lessons. They were able to experience first-hand some of the things they have learnt about, such as hearing the call to prayer, seeing a prayer mat and beads and they were able to ask him any questions they had. These activities form an important part of our statutory requirement to promote the British Value of respect for all faiths and cultures. We often have visitors in school and, like the others, Imran was very impressed with our children’s polite manner and their strong knowledge and awareness of different faiths. Next week is going to be a busy one with lots of time spent outdoors, so please keep your fingers crossed for dry weather! Thank you to all who have offered to provide lifts for our trip to Stowe Gardens on Wednesday; we will let drivers know details at the beginning of next week. On Friday morning, for the Syresham Mile, children should make sure they have PE kits, including a jumper or fleece, and outdoor trainers and a drink. We hope some of you will be able to join us on the sports field at 9.30am. I would like to confirm that while Mrs Bennett is off, children receiving brass lessons will be taught by Ms Laura Bendy and should bring instruments to school on Friday’s as normal. Finally, on Tuesday 29th September our first Full Board of Governor’s meeting is taking place. Prior to the meeting there will be an opportunity for parents to come and meet the governors at 7pm and find out more about what they do. If you would like to attend, please sign the sheet on Mrs Allee’s desk or speak to myself or our Chair of Governors, Clare Powell. We hope you will be able to join us. Have a lovely weekend.
