 IT IS THAT TIME OF YEAR TO HOLD THE ELECTION FOR THE PSTA PRESIDENT.
THE COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT STATES:
o 3) THE BOARD AGREES TO GRANT THE LOCAL ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT
UP TO FIFTY PERCENT (50%) FULL TIME EQUIVALENT (FTE) RELEASE
TIME, UPON REQUEST OF THE LOCAL ASSOCIATION. PAYMENT OF
SALARY AND BENEFITS FOR THE RELEASE TIME WILL BE REIMBURSED BY
THE ASSOCIATION. SUCH REQUEST FOR RELEASE TIME IS TO BE MADE
ON OR BEFORE APRIL 30TH FOR THE FOLLOWING SCHOOL YEAR AND
SHALL STATE THE AMOUNT OF RELEASE TIME BEING REQUESTED. UPON
COMPLETION OF THE TERM OF PRESIDENCY, THE INDIVIDUAL SO
RELEASED WILL REVERT TO THEIR ORIGINAL PERCENTAGE OF TEACHING
TIME.

DO WE KEEP THE PRESIDENT RELEASE TIME AT 1/3RD, OR IS IT TIME TO
INCREASE IT TO 50%?




THERE IS A NUMBER OF ASSOCIATIONS IN SOUTH CENTRAL THAT HAVE 50%
RELEASE TIME FOR THEIR PRESIDENT.
THE MANITOBA TEACHERS’ SOCIETY WILL SUPPORT A 50% RELEASE TIME FOR
PRESIDENTS WOULD COME INTO EFFECT FOR THE 2015/16 SCHOOL YEAR.
WE ALSO NEED TO LOOK FOR TEACHERS TO FILL ANY VACANT SPOTS THAT
MAY OCCUR ON PSTA EXECUTIVE.
PROVINCIAL LEVEL: THERE SEEMS TO BE SOME EXCITEMENT ON THE POLITICAL
SCENE WITH THE SLATE OF CANDIDATES FOR THIS YEAR’S AGM IN MAY.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: WENDY HAMILTON-WEAR
 A COPY OF THE MINUTES OF THE JOINT PD COMMITTEE WERE DISTRIBUTED
FROM THE NOV. 25, 2014 MEETING AT THE BOARD OFFICE.
 THE MEETING SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY 10, 2014 WAS CANCELLED DUE TO
INCLEMENT WEATHER.
 THE MEETING WAS RE-SCHEDULED AND WE MET IN SOMERSET AT PRAIRIE
MOUNTAIN HIGH SCHOOL AT 4:30 ON MONDAY, MARCH 2, 2015.
o SHARED INFORMATION FROM ATTENDING THE WINTER SEMINAR IN
WINNIPEG
 PD OPPORTUNITIES NATIONWIDE AND SOME OF THE GRANT
PRESENTATIONS THAT MIGHT INSPIRE SOME PD
OPPORTUNITIES IN PRAIRIE SPIRIT SCHOOL DIVISION (MOST
NOTABLY PD AROUND HUMAN RIGHTS AND THE MANITOBA
HUMAN RIGHTS MUSEUM AND DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP
SPECIFICALLY INVOLVING SOCIAL MEDIA).
 PRESENTED THE SURVEY RESULTS FROM DR. GREENE WHICH
HIGHLIGHTED A NUMBER OF PD OPPORTUNITIES.
o MR. MURRAY SHARED A PRESENTATION WITH US THAT HE WILL/HAS
PRESENTED TO THE PRINCIPALS REGARDING DIVISIONAL PLANNING
THROUGH DIVISION, SCHOOL AND TEACHER PLANNING.
 ADDRESSED HOW THIS PLANNING PROCESS COULD
COMPLIMENT TEACHER PROFESSIONAL GROWTH PLANS AND
WORK AS A CATALYST FOR PD DEVELOPMENT AT A NUMBER OF
LEVELS INCLUDING PERSONAL INTERESTS.
 THIS WILL BE DISCUSSED MORE AT OUR NEXT MEETING
APRIL 14, 2015.
o THE FORMAT AND CONTENT FOR THE NEXT PSTA SPONSORED DAY IN
THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR WAS SHARED WITH THE GROUP
 THE FORMAT WAS AGREED UPON AND THE SPECIFICS OF THE
PRESENTERS WILL BE FINALIZED IN APRIL WHEN WE HAVE A
BETTER IDEA ABOUT DATES AND ASSIGNMENTS FOR NEXT YEAR.

SEMINAR ON FEBRUARY 27 AND FEBRUARY 28, 2015

 TOTAL PROVINCIAL SUPPORT IS RISING AT A SLOWER PACE, MEANING
MORE RESPONSIBILITY IN PUT ON THE LOCAL DIVISION.
 FARMLAND REBATE HAS BEEN CAPPED
 SENIOR REBATE – NO FINAL DETAILS ON THIS
 RE-ASSESSMENT YEAR – A NUMBER OF JURISDICTIONS WILL SEE DROPS
(FARMLAND HAS CAPPED, HOUSE VALUE HAS DROPPED, DROP IN OIL
PRICES)
IN CONCLUSION, INEQUALITIES REMAIN THROUGHOUT THE PROVINCE.
