We are excited to be embarking on a new journey! Hometown School is participating in the One School, One Book program. The idea is to have all students reading the same book at home with their family. In addition, teachers may choose to incorporate some Humphrey related lessons in their classroom. Today, your child was introduced to the program and received your family copy of The World According to Humphrey. This is your book to read at home and keep. Below is an overview of some of the exciting opportunities we have planned.
Enjoy the Story at Home
We have created a calendar with a reading schedule for you. Please fit the reading into your evenings and weekends however it works best for your family. Just remember we want the kids to be able to help answer the trivia questions in their classroom each Friday.
Help Build Humphrey’s Wall of Fame – ongoing throughout program
Do you have a fantastic furry rodent pet of your own? We would love to see a photo! Send in a photo of your pet and we will add it to Humphrey’s Wall of
Fame. Also, please share any photos you take of your family reading the book at home. Photos will be displayed for the school to see. You can send in a copy or email it to cstrelow@d123.org

. We will try to return all photos, but you might not want to send your only copy just in case!
Bookmark Contest – all entries due April 18
Every good chapter book deserves a creative bookmark! Each student has the opportunity to design a Humphrey themed bookmark. One winner will be chosen from K/1, 2/3, and 4/5. All students will receive a copy of their category’s winning bookmark. All participants will receive a raffle ticket for special prizes. In addition, the three winners will receive an extra prize!
Writing Contest – all entries due May 1
Humphrey goes on so many adventures in this book! Have your child use the attached sheets to draw a picture and write a short story about an adventure
Humphrey might have if he visited Hometown School OR came home with you

for a weekend. All participants will receive a raffle ticket for special prizes.
In addition, one winner at each grade level will receive an extra prize!
